That's awesome Corky! Don't mind the fact that no one else seems to be paying attention to your beautiful oasis. I certainly am. I just checked out the resort website, http://www.bahiadelossuenos.com . That is an amazing spot on the East Cape. Do you live there or taking part in building the resort? The heck with all that frozen stuff, check out that friggin beach

Been there, seen it, Scott... used to go fishing down there (Los Barriles/La Ribera)... there are some INCREDIBLE places on the way as well... Mulege and Loreto, to name a couple!
Used to love it... but times have changed down there... still looks incredible though! |
Ralf, I've down that way too. I took a three week trip ot the tip with a friend, both on R100GS's. It was one of the best trips I've taken. It couldn't have been better all the way down. Always a friendly and welcome attitude and great discoveries at every stop. We even happened to show up at El Serinidad in Mulege on Saturday night just in time for the family style pig roast and a few margaritas. That was about 17 years ago though and things have definitely changed since then. Even the hotel El Serinidad was taken over by the local ejidos (sp) for about three years before it was returned, or sold back to the original owners. There was a pretty bad period all over Baja for a while there. Definitely lost it's glamour to me after that too. I haven't been back since, but it's pictures like these that bring back that warm fuzzy feeling again...or was that just a hangover :)

Yeah, a friend and I drove down there to Baja for six weeks back in 1986 or so. Mulege on down (had the worst hangover of my life there). Rambled around scuba diving, sleeping on the beaches, looking at whales. It was beautiful and remote. Even before that I remember going to Cabo san Lucas and it was almost dark at night before the marina was built, or upgraded. Seemed like a bunch of 25 watt bulbs hanging from electric lines.
I think the last time I was down there was 1998. Did you ever read John Steinbeck's "Log from the Sea of Cortez." A good read. He called it the dark coast or something like that. Back then it was really wild. |

Christmas Ride...
...went for a little ride today...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1198640242.jpg ...that's when I realized that a sweatshirt and some warmer gloves would not be bad AT ALL!!! Of course, the 40MPH wind did not really help either... ...and here are the only other bikers I encountered in the little town of Julian... it was rather chilly! Still good enough for a 150 mile ride... Virtually NO TRAFFIC! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1198640388.jpg |

good to know I am not alone.... :D

Is this the eventual fate of all us BMW riders? ;)

My place is in Los Barriles, about 15 miles South of Bahia de los Suenos.. It's getting built up a bit now but I've had my spot on the beach for 15 years. It was a bargain when I got it. First time I ever drove down to The East Cape/Cabo area was right after they paved the road. I believe it was 1975. I was a San Diego surf Nazi then, and explored the whole peninsula North to South in depth. It aint a bad deal down here now though. Just saw that Tahoe supposed to get real cold tonight.. HA!!! So come on down and ride, I wouldn't pay too much attention to they who say it's not so nice. It's really is pretty sweet. Most gnarly guys wouldn't want to admit they ride a "quad" but I have a couple of those too. Great for the casual sand ride, don't have to worry about pinning it through the sand on a moto!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1198712380.jpg |
