Roll one for me.....
I went over the hump to Pahrump, NV on Saturday. Some may know of Pahrump as the city closest to Vegas in which a guy can visit one of the many "Ranches" about town and rope a filly for a "small" stipend. And if you are female, Hedi Fleiss has set up an enterprise at which a girl can, well, "uncoil" a rope......but I digress, for on this day Pahrump was host to the Terrible Herbst 250 off road race. Great photo ops me thinks.
Despite miscalculating travel time and missing the start, I managed to find a spot along the route that was not too far from the road. T'was great for lots of rocks, dust midst the smell of racing fuel and the sound of exotic engines in some rather bizarre vehicles.....

Moving on to the finish line we encountered some real action.....it consisted of a long straight, a 90 deg. left and a 300 yard sprint to the finish line. Many drivers chose to use the turn to hot dog a bit....how cool!

The driver straightens the wheels accelerating the spin, hits the berm on my side of the road and rolls the truck. It stops 30 ft from me, upright and still running.

The dust clears and they calmly drive across the finish line...minus the roof panel.

About the time I realized they were headed right for me the camera buffer filled and did not get any shots of the roll. I then decided that I better look for an escape route and lowered the camera... none was needed however. The fact that I stood there and disappeared in the dust cloud did however freak my wife out who was viewing this action from afar having no clue what ended up happening....I accused her of setting the whole thing up but they muffed it by getting only one roll out of the deal....:D |
