Slipper clutch for R1200S

I read in MOTORRAD today that these guys:
http://www.mobil-tech.de/index.php?page=product&product=bmw01
have developed an anti-slipper clutch for the R1200S and it worked perfectly and is used by the BMW R1200S Endurance racer. Price is 1090 euros with SURFLEX and 1290 with SACHS material

That looks like it is for the K bikes, not the R bikes, or have I missed something.............

It is for the K; the new one they developed (which isn't shown on the internet yet) is for the R-series and like I said the HP Endurance uses it

Interesting find on SJ BMW Site

I had no idea a slipper clutch was available. Anyone try it?

SJBMW advertises one for the HP2S and the R12S. It's $1095.95.
Now that's change you can live with.

Looks like a nice piece in the specs. Ramp type pressure reduction mechanism with DLC coating on the teeth, all in a greased, sealed, housing. Should reduce slipper mechanism wear and keep the dry clutch dry. Plus, you get a light, touratech type clutch. Can't wait to hear a first hand report from a good 12 tester.

The friction liner looks to be ceramic. Can you tell, Roger? What will this do to your warranty?

The slipper clutch is trick, but pretty unnecessary on the street.

I agree Shreddr. Unless you're racing it;s not a good enough reason for me to break open the clutch. Especially while you are in warranty.

They have a number of the mods from their race bike available. An interesting one is the change to the alternator pulleys.

Isn't that true of all the little mods we make, especially the motor ones

Not necessarily, I am using the motor mods. If I put the slipper clutch in, I would have to change the way I ride, and start banging downshifts to help me slow down quicker. I do like to get on the gas, but i'm not running it that hard into the turns to the point of getting any benefit from the slipper clutch. I doubt I would even engage it. This definitely seems like a racer tool to me.

Well, naturally a guy is biased towards his own mods, but unless the motor mods are getting you to work faster, or helping you escape the coppers, then they're all pretty similarly worthless. You can't put the most worthless farkles on your bike and then complain about other guys doing stuff that is just a 'racer tool' Hypocritical, at best. Most suspension and chassis mods (to include clutch) are of more benefit in the real world. Mere motor stuff is good for the track, or us little boys going vroom vroom, which I'm certainly guilty of too, but don't kid yourself about what you can 'use' and what is 'unnecessary'

I guess I should have been more specific, what I meant is, I don't think I would notice a difference in my bike or riding if I installed a slipper clutch. I did notice the difference with the motor mods. It's like saying we should all have the quickshifters, because the HP2 has it, that is a racer tool as well nothing more.

As far as me "complaining" about anybody putting a slipper clutch on, I didn't see where anybody said they were installing it, again maybe I should have said "unnecessary for ME on the street" perhaps that would have come off better. I have actually never ridden a bike with a slipper clutch, who knows, maybe I would love it, but I think I get the idea, and I am not riding like that on the street. Unless I thought I was going to do a bunch of track days, I don't see where it would make a big difference to ME.

Fair enough, but you really should try one. If nothing else, just because it's fun.
And not breaking the rear loose during a poorly executed downshift (happens to all of us sometimes, no) is kinda cool.

I'm too cheap to run one even on the race bikes though. Starting to practice manual clutch slippage a bit these days. (you know, like Vale, only about 1% as skillfully)

This actually does happen to me on occasion, who knows maybe I really would benefit from it. Pulling the back end of the bike off almost seems like a bigger project than the pistons swap though!
