Front end bottom out

Hi,
Driving today and about to head up a pretty dramatic grade change (a'la streets of san francisco)- when I hit the base of the hill the front end made a loud crack noise (like forks bottoming out) - appears there was no damage, but Im wondering: what caused that noise? The Ohlins bottoming out? The telelever slapping against something? Is it worth adjusting the front shock?
Thanks in advance,
m

Don't worry about it ,it has something to do with your age and having too much time on your hands!

Sometimes with the front end bottoming out the shock will go thru the bodywork, that is probably the crack you heard.Did you look up there for any damage?

Which is why I'm spending less time here lately. Seems like last year's reruns, again.

Mine made that crack noise once during a bottoming out incident (riding too fast on a gravel road) and I discovered a nice stress fracture on the top of my front fender where it hit either the fairing or oil cooler.

Garage
if you're really, really good at it, and the planets are in phase, you can find ways to smack the front fender with the lower section of the front bikini fairing. (the internal black plastic piece breaks away from it's mounting points on the sides).

i have two in a box, both replaced under warranty. the front fender has corresponding scars.
strange part is, those pieces should NOT be able to come in contact with each other.
you can yank, pull, compress, torture-with-tie-downs and grunt all day in the garage and they will NOT kiss each other....so the feat requires some g-force flexing, bending and torque to get them to meet.
i toasted the first one after launching off a steep downhill and landing nose first on a tabletop during one of the Z-boy's wild rides.
the second one bit the dust in a similar fashion...the bike was completely bottomed out in the front, with the rear barely skipping across the ground, when it found a square-edge hole in the road.

both times it made an ugly cracking noise and sent a ball-peen hammer-type message up to the grips. both times the term "uh oh, that can't be good" were muttered from within the helmet.
