Power Commander Questions

Hey all, quick question. It looks like you can now order the Power Commander for the R1200GS.

https://cart.jetkit.com/p-1497-power-commander-iii-usb-2005-2007-bmw-r1200-gs.aspx

Does anyone know if there would be any problems hooking it up to an R1200S? I called Dynojet, but got someone who didn't even sound like they could identify a motorcycle from a picture. Maybe I'll call back later and hopefully get someone else. Thanks.

RS

You would be better off with a Rapid Bike Box III then the Power Commander!!!!

Does the RB work the same way and if so will any competent dyno shop be able to tune it? Sorry for the rookie questions, but I only have experience with the PC's.

I'm located near Houston. I must say the idea of clutchless shifting does sound like fun.

Good luck on getting it reliable on the R12S. Not sure why but we've been totally unsuccessful at getting the RBIII to work on multiple R12S's and haven't got alot of support as to why they won't. RBIII did work miracles on my HP2E and many customers HP2/GS's, but was a major liability for Nate's R12S race bikes, so we stuck with our "BMWMA Power Commander" proprietary setup on the race R12S's we set up.

As for the original question, not sure what the interface looks like on the new R12GS PCIII. It may have blocked out areas not mappable by the end user for EPA/CARB compliancy which means it will not be optimal for the R12S would be my guess. However an unblocked/unrestricted PCIII USB model adapted for an R12S with a very delicately custom developed map would work quite swell as it's been on the race bikes for the past 1 1/2 years.

I don't suppose your proprietary set-up is purchasable, is it?

It's not a complete plug and play install and requires some custom wire termination = no warranty by most any shop's standards per BMW's guidelines. Also we do not have to man power to be offering tech support for the unit we've adapted. Hopefully PC will see enough potential with the R12S to offer a unit specific for it's application. The main unit would be the same, they would just have to alter install instructions and create a different base map to accomodate the R12S.
