What's The Fastest Speed You Have Attained On A Motorcycle?

Hopefully this thread not lurking somewhere three pages back.

May 2007, Texas hinterlands on way to Taos, NM. 2006 K1200GT loaded with gear and just myself. There was a bit more throttle left but I chickened out worry about some LEO down the straightaway ready to nail me with instant-on radar or Laser (tho' I did have a laser jammer active)

Well, on this board it should be "What is the fastest speed you have attained on a boxer motorcycle (preferably "S").

Because I suspect there are plenty here that have reached high speeds but don't talk about it...

The funny thing is that this same post, if made on I-bmw, would get deleted or bashed to pieces in a heartbeat. Plenty of people over there that, rightfully, don't believe in the power of "max speed" from a GPS.

In the right conditions, I can get into a tunnel, exit between tall buildings, and then magically move a block to the north or south in under a half a second, which ends up blipping my top speed close to 200 MPH.

Besides, I've always considered threads like these to be "who should win the next Darwin Award?" Or, "who's going to be the next one to ruin someone else's life in a fiery wreck?"

Except, of course, for the few people who do it legally on tracks or salt flats...

Then again, the way I ride my S (read: steady and controlled) would probably get my membership revoked in some circles, but I really DGAF.

Lighten up...it was supposed to be fun, neither a testimony to greatness nor a indication of stupidity. And, BTW, as a very long time member of I-BMW your assertion is quite wrong about its reception there. Sorry you DGAF but again, meant as a fun thread; sorry it caused you concern.

Oh sure... I've had 634 mph on an old Garmin unit from a flight. I didn't think to take pictures, I didn't know one day I'd have the opportunity to stake my claim as Fastest Gosh-Darn Motorcyclist Alive.

EDIT: ...besides, that was on a laptop/USB receiver contraption, and 634 mph on a motorcycle with a laptop & remote antenna mounted on it is just implausible.

The cops were out with their radar during a track day at Phillip Island. I'm not sure of all their motivation but they did seem to be genuine motorcycle enthusiasts and I appreciated them letting us know our top speeds that they were seeing.

I had two bikes there, a 1997 Valkyrie and a 2000 Aprilia Mille. The Val returned a pathetic 171 km/hr (about 107 MPH) while the Aprilia did a respectable 244 km/hr (about 152 MPH).

They were standing at the pit exit which is still quite a ways from the end of the main straight, so many bikes would still be accelerating at that point. It was important to get a good exit from turn 12 onto the straight for the best run, Val might have done better if it weren't for having to drag the crash bar, foot peg, side stand and muffler. Geez that bike was impressive for the amount of sparks it would throw off.

Flying, at a legitimate air speed is different, that is accurate. And hopefully there is nothing above you blocking the signal.

I achieved that speed by zooming through a canyon in Utah where the GPS lost communication for a split second. Since it computes using the (6-foot ?) intervals, the next time it picked back up was several points beyond.

As a general rule however, the "innaccuracy" factor is overrated. That has only happened once since I bought the unit.

My only gripe with the Garmin is the screen & letters are too small.

Speedometer indicated 165 on the 04 R1 at the end of the straight at Roebling Road in Savannah, Ga. I am sure given the speedometer error it was in the 150s somewhere.

I hit 305km/hr indicated on a Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird on an open stretch of Autobahn back in 2001. That was... fast. Probably wouldn't do it again, but I did it and lived to talk about so that's great. In any case I regularly cruised at 120-140mph on that thing. That's a nice comfortable *slow* speed

Fastest - Indicated 168 on a K1200S during a test ride : O Gave the keys back to the dealer and said don't let me ever ride this bike again or I'll be in a jail for a long time.

Fasted on a boxer - Indicated 155 on my '01 1100S - Vanderlinde racing pipes, chip, Induct and Powerfilter - on a long flat straightway - solo, but with bags fully loaded on a long road trip. No idea what the real speed was, but that S was quicker than most.

On my R1200C (don't laugh) with straight pipes - got radar'd and 5 big tickets in New Jersey for going 122 in a 55. : O

On my 1100GS (current ride) - 130 MPH Indicated - going down hill and about to be killed by the crappy buffeting - bike has no cat code plug (runs rich) + Laser Pipe (with no baffle)

On a BMW, indicated 135, which was tickling the rev-limiter in 5th gear on the back straight of the Pocono Racetrack, running the FUSA circuit.

On any bike? Probably in mid 140's on a number of bikes, including a K12GT on the autobahn, CBR600 track bike, sons 1200 Suzuki Bandit.
