The carbon one seems to have a more comfy 'looking' seat than the street....

MSRP for a CBR1000RR with ABS is $12,999 + 6.75% sales tax where I live = $13,876. According to all the teasers, to get to the S1000RR price, add 10% to the Honda price = $14,299 + sales tax = $15,264. So for $1,388 more than the Honda I can have the S1000RR parked in my dining room.

Back in Germany (in US$) CBR1000RR (incl VAT?) = $18,252 while the S1000RR (incl VAT) = $19,765. So for $1,513 more than the Honda I can have the S1000RR parked in my esszimmer.

But my question is how can I get the S1000RR for $4,500 less than the guy living in Munich?

Don't forget the new Aprilia RSV4 is hitting the streets too, and the new KTM RC8R. It's going to be a busy new bike market in 2009, shame that no one has any money left to buy one though...

On styling I don't thinkthe street version looks that great but I'm keen to see one in the flesh. All that understated silver paintwork is fine on a 5 series but non-descript on something that is supposed to be a super bike.

Looks awesome. I'd like to see the all black one in the first pic that you can only see part of. The biggest problem I see is the drawn out release process they have. From what I hear, the dealers will have one in the showroom to look at this summer, but if you want one, you'll have to wait until Fall at earliest.

Throttle, if your numbers are right, you can have a bike that the average rider can ride and keep up with his other average riding ability wise buddies BUT IT'S A BMW for a 10% premium.
That's so small a difference, most of the YUPPIE squids will jump on it.
IF, repeat, IF the performance is equal, it will be a winner.

If priced right people will jump on it even if the performance isn't equal. The CBR 900/1000 has been behind in the performance stakes for years but still a top seller. In the real world 99% of the riding public cannot tap into 600 c.c. performance; they aren't going to tap into 1000 c.c. performance either, on road or track. I certainly can't.

There's the reason why guys/gals on the R11/12S can stay with the 600/1000 c.c. supersport brigade; no one is really using anything near 100 bhp 90% of the time.

The bhp performance difference may be a factor or noticable on straights, long straights at that, but that's what the squids care about. This bike is not really aimed at them.

For guys/gals like me who love Japanese performance but prefer something a bit more unique and exotic this is a welcome change. We couldn't get the MV750/1000 in Canada, the Benelli is scant, Triumph continues to shy away from the big bore bikes, and the KTM and Aprilia delivery date and dealer backup is TBD. I've got 4 BMW dealerships between 10 mins and 2 hours of my house. The question now becomes boxer v. I4 or R12S v. HP2 Sport v. S1000RR.

BMW Roundel What is Your Passion?

Greetings,

When my father bought me my first BMW it was a engine warranty basket case R27 in Dover White that we both rebuilt. He got it from one of his clients, Michael Bondy at Butler and Smith the then importer of BMWs. I still have it and it is a perfect and correct BMW.

To me a BMW inspires passion, as long as it is a BMW (You know... air cooled/oil cooled single and twins).

The K-Bike and the new 1000SS are BMWs attempt to go mainstream. Not a bad plan with the Husky add-on!

The K1300 and the S 1000 RR are perfect for the market as they attract a different demographic and will bring a broader range to market. I can say after thrashing them that they are really good and will do well in the marketplace. ( K1300 is a very much improved K1200 )

However, I have the passion for the real BMWs singles and 180 twins.

They spin my propeller.

But for development/grant/tax reasons, we buy and ride all the new BMWs.
