Wow! When I get back from a workout, I'm either nekkid or pissed - sometimes both...
I like this latest colour combo - does the job nicely! My flag arrived today, my 9 week old boys 'BMW race suit' is nearing completion, just need to find something good to hook the flag to and make sure the R12S is ready for the little blat down to the Island... Yee haa grandma - This is pretty exciting stuff! So, if neither bike make it to the end - should I fly the flag at half mast immediately or when? ![]() If Corser wins - should I run out at the end of the straight around turn 1 before southern loop and give him the flag? If he comes last should I light the flag up and then chase Corser with it - wrapping in him a burning BMW flag? Damn - think I could be getting meeself on a roll tooo0ooo000 |

Why is everybody so impressed with the 165kg weight figure? that's the minimum weight required to race in WSBK. Apparantly the street version will weigh 204kg's wet...
Also like Dean says 200+ can mean 201hp or 250hp and because Corser says there's enough power (and the rode the R1 last year so he has a good comparison) it will be in the 220hp+ region for sure (also because it probably will have the shortest stroke of all competitors). But the most important thing is that they have no set-up data for almost all circuits so the question will be how quick they can find that. For sure they will race in the top 5 at some races but also a lot lower at other ones...consistency will come next year |

if it's BELOW the mininum weight at tech inspection, they go back and pat the same chief mechanic on the back...and ask him where he's going to add the lead to make minimum. the hardest part is getting UP to the minimum weight, not reducing to drop down. for example, factory-backed supercross bikes are required to have outer engine cases that "appear" identical to the stock cases in size and shape, but what goes on inside is another story. "all the gears" have to be in the gearbox, but it doesn't state what materials the gears must be made of. since they don't use fifth or sixth gear while racing, those gears can be made of something other than metal...say for instance...plastics used for skateboard wheels. liberal use of magnesium and titanium is also employed, along with more drilling-out that our resident dentist will experience in his whole career. the goal is to get the bike lower than minimum, then add back weight in strategic locations to get the center of gravity where they want it. team race bikes look pretty, all lined up in a row. they look identical. yet you usually can't take a motor mount from bike A and use it on bike B because the engine isnt in exactly the same position. lots o' fiddlin' goes on in dirt bike racing. and we don't have anything close to the budgets that those asphalt scraping guys play with.

And who did Yamaha rip off for the R6? Aerodynamics dictate the shape, I4's originated in Italy.....everybody is using what wins. If the rules were changed to give an advantage for having a Windjammer fairing, everyone would have one of them too.
Don't worry so much about "if" the BMW looks like whatever. What counts is the BMW roundel on the side of the winning bike. |

Based on the other pearls of "wisdom" from HJR, I'm not surprised by how inane that video was. I posted my own argument against the video in the comments on YouTube; I'm not going to waste the PP's bandwidth responding to such lunacy.
As to Chewie's post, however, I'll take 2! Beautiful paint scheme!

... referring to
![]() I'm a bit worried to learn you seem to know me so well.... ![]() Well it isn't my video, but the point I'm trying to make is that it's not so easy to make a clip like that on most of the other BMW models. I like a bike to different in some way, and for sure this S1000RR isn't .... as far as the outside shows.... any different than one of the Jap's. I sure hope it stands out in performance and/or in some technical aspect. I do like what BMW is trying to do with their image and them stepping in to the WSB ring, but the bike itself doesn't tick any boxes for me and at first sight it doesn't give any reason to get all excited about.... other than there's a BMW roundel on it. It'll be interesting because it looks like Yamaha have already changed the rules with their 4 cylinder twin.

Chris, now that's just not right. You can't put something like this out here and just sit back. Give it up, where's a link to learn more?

Yam 4cyl does not fire in a big, bang, twin format. Things are not that evenly spaced, so it's not at all like a twin. Just non even crank throws and firing.
14500 is darn high spinning for a stock 1000.

IE, a longer 'pause' in the firing to supposedly allow the rear tyre to maintain or get back some traction before the next firing. Someone will know the proper firing order/timing, so I'm just guessing (*dons flame suit*....a PP member guessing, surely not) But instead of bang, bang, bang, bang at 90,180,270,360 it's bang bang. pause. bang bang Like Roger said, it's uneven. (unusual for an I4) Thus it's the "Twin" part as there's a bang a pause and a bang (or 2). That's my uneducated understanding ![]() One thing I know for sure is that from the couple of vids i've seen online....it sounds HOT! I like! Cheers, Ant

nope... (in fact the Yam's R6 does the same) ... 130bhp at over 20,000rpm from a 500cc 4-stroke would... .... quiete impressive back in the 80'ies when honda raced their NR500 oval piston racer! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_NR or a screaming V8, that for sure would tick some boxes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_Guzzi_Grand_Prix_500_cc_V8 But an inline 4, doing 14500 rpm.... well maybe I´m spoiled ![]() HJ

Well i have to Rog thats typical of you splitting hairs!!,it's ain't no inline 4,i've ridden one,Yamaha have changed the rules, and everyone else is going to be playing catch up,the problem being BMW are going were all the others have been before,by the fact they've changed tack, it shows you a Jap manafacturer who has realised they need a different way to skin a cat,the cat being Ducati,Suzuki have been the big HP route they've got the fastest bike by some margin,Honda have gone the Honda route!!!!,and in all honestly they've fallen into a barrel full of tits and come up sucking their corporate thumbs,Yamaha have changed the rules!!!
