Fault code reader?
Can someone help me find the link to the Motronic 2.4 jumper wire that allows you to read fault codes with an analog volt meter or LED? I know I seen it somewhere here in the past, but can't find it now.
It was a link to some European web site if I remember correctly. I don't need the ABS one. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the procedure to clear a fault code at home!
I can post it later today. But I do not know of anyway of reading the fault without a reader!

I have the GS-911, and it allows you to read and reset all fault codes from about any BMW. $299 from The Beemershop in the US.

TM, have you had the opportunity to "park" the stepper motors yet when doing a throttle synch?
I've read that on the Hexheads, GS-911 will do that. |

This link showed photos indicating the proper pin to wire directly to on the Motronic 2.4. (It was something like pin #18) The pin spot is currently empty on the R1100S connector.
The author runs a wire to the empty pin and connects it to a new female pin prong. The other end of the wire terminates back by the standard connection area under the seat. To read fault codes first you connect an analog VOM meter, or LED light, to this wire. Next you ground it for a few seconds. The VOM meter or LED will move or flash indicating a fault code number. This will read faults in the sensors and what not connected to the Motronic. This is a link to a similar site outlining the Motronic 2.2. It mentions some guy in Holland who did it on the 2.4. Motronic 2.2

I don't have a hexie and I have my K for too short to have done maintenance on it, so I couldn't tell you about that. All options/features are available on the site I linked to though.

Do you mean it tells you when a certain mileage has been reached for valve adjustment or is it more intuitive than that? 300 is not as bad as I thought. Will it do the HP2S.

I just bought a GS-911, the "enthusiast blue tooth model". So far, I can't get the Blackberry to stay synched with the unit, so I am relying on direct USB connection. I'm sure I'll get it figured out, but haven't put in the time. I need to do the stepper motor idle adjust tonight and will let you know how it goes. The documentation is pretty skimpy, but so far it's pretty easy to figure out (Bluetooth aside). I think you don't actually synchronize the throttles in the normal sense. It's just a command to send the stepper motors through their full range to figure out where "closed" is.
And yes, they're advertised to work on the HP2S.

Well, that was easy. I finally figured out the bluetooth too. Not all the functionality is available from the BB app, but some real-time data is available. It looks to mostly be good for fault diagnosis on the road, but if you have a small notebook you carry anyway, I wouldn't bother with blue tooth.
The PC interface, on the other hand is slick! The idle synch was just what I thought, it puts the steppers through their range of motion to hit the stops and determine where fully closed is. Not sure if the factory interface actually does more? And it does have the settings listed for the HP2S.
