CC Products Exhaust Inserts For A Few More HP On The R11S units?

Curious as to the results brothers may have had when they combined the CC Products complete induct system and its large K/N filter housing.............with the exhaust header inserts that keep the twin valve exhaust ports separate for a little longer before they combine into one. Has anyone used these and did you feel a benefit IYPO? Made for early R11S units and perhaps later ones as well.

I put the San Jose BMW exhaust accelerator inserts on my 03 BCP, along with a number of other mods done at about the same, including complete removal of the cross-over baffle, addition of a Vanderlinde exhaust, and ceramic coated header pipes. I would think that anything that increases the efficiency of the exhaust flow is good, although quantifying it would be difficult.

I wrote a article about the suddenness of closure concerning exhaust pressures with regard to the early oil-head bikes. I suggested that it was too sudden and that longer time is a straight track from each exhaust valve port would offer better flow. Chris seemed to think so as well and produced the inserts. I never tried any however and was curious if anyone here had. Thanks for the input but I wonder how they would have worked when used alone or just with the air-duct as CC suggested. They (CC dyno) showed almost 2 more peak HP with just the inserts alone however. Curious as to results brothers here have seen.

Curve, I'm in the process of installing them on my 11S right now. She's stock except Remus exhaust rearward of the headers. Supposedly there's a Remus chip too, but I don't know for sure. I'm also grinding all excessible internal welds throughtout the pipe work.

I'm hoping that effectively lengthening the exh ports I'll gain some low end driveability.

Please let me know what you find out. They match up well as the machining on the units Chris seem very accurate. Perhaps I will slip them on a new R11S project I am working on.

I did a thread on the SJBMW inserts a few years back that might answer some questions for you.
look it up if you like.

The inside of the headers require grinding to make the accelerators fit. They just don't drop in as noted in the thread above. A die grinder is pretty much required unless you have several hours to do it with a 1,500 rpm drill and by hand. I used a 6 amp, 15k rpm grinder with a 1/4" shaft, which is a handy tool to have. Finished with another die grinder using a 1/8" shaft and 60 grit sanding flap wheels for final smoothing of the inside. The 1/4" & 1/8" die grinder set from Harbor Freight are VERY useful tools to have. After install, the accelerators move the headers forward, so you have to move your exhaust forward also. Photo included to show what I mean.

The header inserts are good, but as has been pointed out above, lots of grinding is required. With the insert in place I discovered that I needed longer exhaust header bolts, which turned into a small adventure as the stock header bolts had a weird thread pitch. I wound up replacing the bolts with a standard metric size (I've forgotten the size) but had to retap the head to make them fit. No troubles since then & that was 40K miles ago. For no good reason, I also enlarged the size of the hole in the baffle in the cross-over pipe. The total package: ceramic coated pipes, exhaust accelerators, SJ powerfilter, larger snorkel, laser exhaust and chip gave me a noticeable boost over the stock setup.

Forgot to add that I contacted SJBMW about the issue, and they sent me a set of longer threaded header studs. If you're installing the inserts, be sure to get them. I don't know if moving the exhaust forward is a problem on other exhausts, but it turned out to be a chore with my Vanderlinde, i.e., removing the exhaust and welding an extension tube onto the rear of the can. Other exhausts may have enough space to just push them farther forward on the holders.

I had them along with a full Remus and SJ air filter set up with snorkle on my R1150R, never dynoed it but it would handly out run other R1150R's.

Not true! There was a guy who posted here (it's been awhile) about his experience with this system. He had pictures of his. Mostly, I remember he talked about how poorly it was constructed and how it rusted out.

Agreed. It was long vaporware, and then turned into a single solitary sighting of rust-ware and kludgeware.

And the Black Holes had a FF (Fugly Factor) that was just right off the charts!

oh yeah, my buddy Barry has those SJ inserts on his '01, along with a full Remus exhaust. He claims a noticable improvement, but has not dyno'ed it.

Jeff, thanks for the heads up on the post mentioning the trouble with the studs. I've got all the tools and hardware on hand to duplicate your install.

I too was going to double gasket each side and use the copper nuts as found on the BMW cars. Have you had any trouble with leaks?
