No offense to Peter, but on an R11S, a serial ECU is about as useful as a gold plated brake reservoir.

Before we open this Pandora's Box, look for a thread I started called FRK and the Sprocket...or something like that. It started off pretty normal and then grew. Even has a few useful things in it if you are prepared to dig.
FRK and the Sprockets Shreddr started one too. Get a cup of whatever and read up.

It was a brutal Pelican coming out party for me. I came down on the side of not being impressed with whomever was marketing the FRK at the time. It's knid of ironic that I now have an FRK mounted on my bike after all of that. Rather than open up that can of worms... I guess I'll keep using the FRK at the moment, checking my sparkplugs regularly and decide later when I have recovered from the purchase of this bike if I want to spend the $$$ on a PC and dyno tune or call it all "good enough". whew! JT PS: I still have no idea what a "serial ECU" is... :P |

"serial" is an euphemism of mine : means an ECU (or something that claims to be an "ECU" of some sort the likes of RB and/or PC) that plugs in "after" the OEM ECU and modifies the OEM ignition/injection signals according some stored maps (max 2). All these things are supposedly working in open loop. In RapidBike's case there's a great mystery (at last to me) about why works with steady L=1 values (thus requires OEM L-sensor replacement with other gizmos).
In fact only MoTec is an ECU (but...requires the hit the bank plan). That said a friend - Yam R1 retired racer - has an used M400 unit and he's willing to give it to me for free - in exchange I'll give him some concept design for his future home (my BIG troubles may start right now, maybe not he he). But indeed this whole topic is a gigantic rabbit hole...maybe the best thing to do is to stay away from all that (maybe pointless) mess.
