Locked seat stuck

Hey, my seat is stuck locked. The key turns in the barilet, but the seat is not released. Apparently, from what I can see through limited access, the lever does not move when the key is turned. How can I force the thing open so I can take a look at the locking mechanism ? Anybody has a good picture of what it looks like ?

Meeni - No consolation to you but, I think this is the first time the problem has appeared on PP. I would push down on that back tail section of the seat (by the locking mechanism) to make sure it is seated properly. Then try again.

I'd have to go look, but on the K-bike the unlock lever is spring loaded and doesn't let go until you bang on the tail of the seat (where the latch is) to release it. So.....might try bumping your seat with the heel of your and where the latch meets the seat with the key turned.

Push down on the seat while you release the lock. Keep the key turned and gently pull up on the rear. If the key has turned 90 degrees, the locking mechanism should be disengaged.

Forgot about your photoreportage N. ! Wonderful material you have there. The picture is of great help indeed.

I tried the obvious things like bumping and brutalizing the seat while turning the key with no luck so far

What do you think happens if I chase out the tapper that keeps the springs in place ? Is it also the axle on which the locking mechanism articulate ?

What a pain in the neck! Wonder how/why it's binding up?

If you can wait till tonight I will photograph it in more detail from another angle and maybe we can conjure a way to pop the lock less invasively by using a variation of the old credit card trick with a long spatula or hacksaw blade. It might be doable by threading soemthing thin down from the rearmost junction of the seat and tail section, and trying to depress that latch.

I considered a chainsaw as an alternative, but explosives are always fun, ask the Mythbusters.

Go in thru the Tail Light area.........eventually getting to the twin lever pins. Manually move them with a extended screw driver tip or bend a special tool to fit..........move the pins (any way you can get to them) to release the seat hook without using the key.

This should take about 10 seconds

Take a longish screwdriver, go in through the side of the open area on the tail:

Latch closed, screwdriver bearing on rear arm:

Latch open (puch rearward and down on rear arm):

Good luck!

Yup, Nils is right on the money!
I follow this procedure every time to get my seat latch to engage, only my fingers are long enough to reach in through the top and push/pull on the shiny brass-ish arms....

Success ! Thanks a lot for all the pictures and all, that helped a lot. Turns out the plasting link arm is broken for some reason. Weird.

It is even easier than initially thought: just insert a screwdriver from the top, inbetween the underside of the seat and the plastic subframe, and push on the metal lever vertically from there. Takes 10s to open, don't store valuables there
