New air filter for R1100s

This is my first BMW and after riding for a couple months i have started looking at mods for the bike, i have researched the threads and appreciate all the time and effort you guys have put into this site, I love my 2004 R1100s and plan on keeping it for a long time so i am interested in mods that make it easier to maintain as well as performance, I have performed the 24000 mile service and am relocating the fuel filter. I started looking at after market air filters and came across these. I have searched the thread and have no intention of purchasing from this company or even identifying the maker although i am sure many of you recognize them. My question is does another company make anything similiar, i like the idea of getting rid of the airbox? or could i simply mount filters on the existing tubes coming from the throttle bodies? What would be the benefits or downfall of either mod. thank you

Getting rid of airbox a bad idea unless you are capable of providing completely new mapping.
The simple FI system on these bikes assumes a given amount of airflow based on gear, rpm, TP etc, under all but low load / light cruise. This will throw that off pretty significantly, more than some exhaust mods (on carb'd bikes, I've had to move a half dozen jet sizes up for a similar mod).
Not a horrible idea, and conceptually a good one, but if you mess with the air, you have to mess with the gas. Many threads on the subject. Note also that whatever air you get in, will be warmer / less-dense too (not a plus)

Thank you, sounds like this is one of those leave well enough alone mods. Bike runs great the last thing i want is to screw it up trying to mod things.

Just a thought, but is it normal to buy a bike that you love, rides great, runs well and then start trying to change it? maybe there really is a doctor with a couch waiting for all of us

Yes, that is 100% normal. Carry on.

ha ha Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Riding.
The only ones who will ever understand these sicknesses are those that have the disease.

I've already lost a GF of 6 years partly over this.

don't think of it as losig a g/f. Consider it to be gaining riding time, and that whining sound in your ears was severly reduced.
