Where to find comparable pricing?

All,

I haven't been on for a while but starting to look again at an R1100S. Quick question about pricing, though I know it's more art than science. Maybe an example would help - I found a very clean, 04 Boxer Cup Prep with 15K miles in SoCal - asking price just a little north of $6K. Bike is basically stock and pretty much like you might expect to see - no added centerstand, no ABS, no bags, no heated grips. Seems to me the asking price is at least in the ballpark based on NADA/KBB, and looking at asking prices here, on IBMWR, and other sites. I mentioned it to a friend who has more experience with Beemers and has owned a couple 11S's, and he said "way too high." Maybe it is, maybe it isn't - but are there better sources of info for getting price comparisons? I realize it's not necessarily accurate to look at asking prices but obviously it's tough to find "final sale" prices unless you know someone who was a recent buyer/seller.

Any help would be appreciated - not just for this particular bike - but as a source of knowledge going forward. Thanks in advance.

One method I've used over the years for cars and bikes is to do a nationwide search on Auto Trader/eBay/Craigslist/Hemmings/BMWOA or other popular classified website for the particular model I'm interested in. I average the prices listed in the ads and use that as a starting point adjusting for condition, mileage, transportation costs, etc. I've been satisfied with the results.

As a side note I'd ask your buddy to generate the bike that your looking for for the price he thinks is acceptable.

On a whim I recently posted my '04 BCR for sale and received offers similar to asking price of you SoCal bike.

FYI...I live in Oceanside and have a silver 04 R1100S in excellent condition with almost 19K miles. Pretty much loaded....Wilbers suspension front/back set up for 190lb rider, Remus racing exhaust (sounds insane), 5.5" rear wheel, Techlusion, BMW hard bags keyed to ignition...$6250

You can contact me at shoboat90@gmail.com if interested.

Thx

look where bikes are being sold. KBB and NADA are close to worthless when it comes to pricing used bikes.
ibmwra.org, craigslist, bmwmoa.org, here, dealers, eBay, etc.

Thanks all! I looked at quite a few of those sources though couple of other good ideas listed. My friend was thinking $5K - I think that's probably too low for an 04 from what I've seen. I'm not suggesting the bike in question was the best deal out there, but I thought it was close enough to possibly make an offer. Thanks again.

Barf bikes

Sounds a little steep for not having all the things you said it didn't have. Paid 6500 for mine with them and 8000 miles
