Dunlop Q2 vs Metzelers
I wanted to install Dunlop Q3 on my R1100S because this tire is so awsome. But they donīt make it in 170 size. I currently have Metz Sportec Z6 that is the stock tire. Its a pretty decent tire but I wonder if anybody has swapped to Dunlop Q2 and noticed a noticable improvement ?

Hi RIQUE,
According to metz web pages, the 5inch wheel can have a 180 tyre on it, i ran into someone when i was having my tyres fitted who put a 180 Z8 on there 11s, an has has several on it... I fitted a set of the new Pirelli Angel GTs, very impressed with them, mine has the wider rear rim, an a 180 tyre... Jeremy |

Hey guys,...I replaced my Dunlop sport max with Avon storm II ,..what a difference. I was going to give a ride report last oct. But the riding season here was coming to a close when I did the swap. I was only able to log 80 or so miles, but these Avon dual compound are far superior to the Dunlop .btw I also ran a 180 on a 5" rim before I acquired a 5.5" rear wheel,...imho I wouldn't recommend it. It feels very unstable . Without having the wide enough rear rim to handle the 180 tire, the tire becomes taller w/ less stable feeling side walls during the lean angle. I didn't like it at all. However The wider (5.5") rear wheel with the correct sz tire is an awesome combination .

I have a brand new (still has the sticker on it) Q2 SportMax 170/60ZR17 I don't need anymore. I'm running 180s now.
I've also run the SportTec M3s, can't go wrong with these either. When I tracked the Z6 it did pretty well with the stock engine (before I blew it up) but it definitely stepped out a lot more and backed in more on the brakes. I've often sport toured with M3 up front and a Z6 out back and on the road, this worked very well. I think the Q2s are better if you're chasing grip. Advantage of the 170 on these bikes is they turn in quicker with the narrower tire.

I had Metzelers on the bike when I bought it a few years back, was not impressed. Put on the Q2s for a track day and holy crap. I kept them on for regular everyday riding, too, because they just felt so great. Tons of grip and really quick lean-in. That may have just been due to the Metzelers being old, but I dunno, because I put some Pilot Sports on for commuting and while those were nice, everything felt more sluggish compared to the Q2s.
