How many 100k + r11s's with no issues?
How many of you have accumulated over 90k miles on your r1100's with no mechanical issues whatsoever?
Curious as my beloved '02 Aprilia RSV Mille passed 96k miles recently with the only maintenance being oil, tire and sprocket/chain changes (No, no valve adjustments aside from it's first back at 5000 miles though checked as per required schedule). No electrical problems which so many allude to either. It's been a benchmark example of bulletproof reliability with fantastic 10 sec quarter mile performance along with a 170 mph speed potential to tap, even if rarely. An outstanding mount being used primarily as a sport touring unit which it does stupendously well, cruising at a totally erffortless 130+ for as long one wishes, or at least until nerves finally relent. ![]() Also having an r1100s in my stable which will more than likely remain there until the good lord requests my presence - I'm wondering how many have attained this somewhat lofty figure whilst requiring the maintenance of the proverbial stone. I'm so not looking forward to the clutch/spline lube service, so I'm interested in reading which component(s) required servicing/replacement on the trek there. J.S. |

I have two. A '99 with 142,000 miles and another '99 with 103,000. Only had one major hiccup with the first (the cup near the hall sensor was spinning freely). The other is new to me, but doesn't appear to have had any issues.

My 99 is at 96k or so right now. The only issue I have had is the driveshaft spline stripped out. This was due to not being put together properly during a maintenance by previous owner. Sucked at the time, but really wasn't a huge deal. Not as easy to do on road as a chain would be, but then chains have to be done a LOT more often...
I planned on riding it until it died, did many 3k+ mile rides without any concern or prep, would be keeping it if the BCR didn't come into my life... I am impressed the RSV did that kind of mileage. Haven't ever researched or heard anything about them in the reliability department, but seems to be an impressive feat for most any bike. Matt

While you are in there, always good to replace the rear main deal on the motor, as well as the input seal on the transmission. Check the clutch and all the associated components,as with that many miles, something might need replacement.

VetteRacer, Aprilia's are reknown for their reliability, their only down fall seems to be electrics as the Italians have never yet seemed to get a handle on them in any bike. Fortunately the defects are well known & easily cured, unlike the fragile drive trains of some of the oilhead BMW's. However both of my airheads (R90R, R100S) were way over the 100k mark when sold with only one requiring a new clutch around the 110-120k mark.
