Dim Onboard Computer light

As soon as I switch on the headlights, the screen on the onboard computer screen dims so much that it is difficult to see during the daylight hours.

It would appear to be a ground problem. Where do I start looking for the grounding point?

Thanks,

Ray

These cars are not equiped with day light running lights, so when you turn on the lights the car thinks its night and therefore dims everything so as not to disturb the driver. At night when you turn on the lights is the display easily legible? Also on the the dash lower portion by the colum ther should be a dim control switch, as a etching of a little light bulb tweek that a little it could be turned down all the way. Is the display bright when the lights are off?

The light dims approx 20 seconds after the engine has been started. It makes no difference whether the lights are on or off.

Could there be a short circuit somewhere? If so how can I trace it?

Thanbks,

Ray
