where does the bleeder valve contact sensor belong?

I've been having the "can't put gas in without it spitting on me" problem on my 986. The fuel tank bleeder valve seemed a likely culprit so I replaced it...no help. While under there I saw a wire hanging loose which I identified as the bleeder valve contact sensor. What does this do and, more importantly, where does it go? Do I need to attach it to something or does it just hang there? Thanks!
