Unable to move shift control lever

My 1997 Boxster 986 with the Tiptronic gearbox will not shift out of Park. Is there a switch within the brake system that verifies the brake pedal is being depressed when attempting to move the shift lever to Reverse or Drive? TYIA

Most likely. Check the brake pedal.

Yes, there’s a brake light switch above the pedal that tells the car you’re pressing the brake. If it’s faulty or misaligned, the shifter stays locked in Park. Check or replace that switch first.
