Boxster engine issues timeframe
Hi all
![]() My brother is looking to get his first Porsche, and from the way it looks it's going to be a Boxster!!! He posed a question to me which I hope you can help answer. I am aware of the MRS and other engine related problems during 1998-2001 years. Were boxsters plagued with the same issues in 1997 as well as post 2001? Thanks for the help!

Not so much and if it hasn't happened, it probably won't. Unless you found a car with extremely low mileage. '97 wasn't a real good year all around. New model syndrome. My '00 has been flawless except for the seat belt warning light staying on (very common and a dealer fix).

Oh no. Under 10K. They're around. 30K and all problems should surface.

I have a January 1997 Boxster and it does not have the seal issue. Any Boxster or 996 ever made can have the issue but it seems to be hit or miss.
Subject to a few differences the 2.5 1997-1999 are the same. In 2000 the 2.5 was increased to 2.7 and the 3.2 Boxster S came out. The top unit is better on those years but it is not hard to fix top issues with the 2.5. |
