passenger window not working right

Hi everyone. i'm new to this forum. i recently bought a 98 boxster and LOVE it, however, the passenger window is acting very strange. won't go up or down all the time and it makes this aweful crunching noise. my husband took the door panel apart and noticed the cable that runs through the pully was freyed. he wound the cable back up in the pully and tried the window. with no avail, it worked once up and once down and then back to it's shinanigans. what course of action do we take from here. is this something that i can replace on my own or do i ultimately have to take it to the dealer to get fixed. any ideas on what else the problem may be? i appreciate any help.

Thanks

Welcome to the BBS

You need to replace the window regulator.

You can do this yourself. Since you have already taken the door apart once, everything else should be fairly straight forward.

Disconnect the battery, if you have passenger airbags, DO NOT, under any circumstances reconnect the battery or turn the car on with any airbag components disconnected.

Don't overtighten the clamps that hold the window to the regulator.
