Multiple fault codes

Hi all,
Here is a strange one:

Fault codes P1128, and P1130 ( Enrichment limit)

Fault codes P1123, and P1125 ( Lean limit)

How can it be both?

Also:

P0410 Secondary Air Injection, Signal Implausible Cylinders 1-3

P1411 Secondary Air Injection, Signal Implausible Cylinders 4-6

I would suspect a common problem, but not sure what

Any thoughts

With the secondary air injection codes I would be thinking vac leak as well. But clean the maf first and go from there.

I don't have the sheet here, but I recall similar issues (max rich/lean) when I had a variocam tensioner fail on one cylinder bank.

Interesting ......

If variocam was not properly varying valve timing I would certainly think that the AFR would be incorrect.

Would like to know if any other info is available.

Are you experiencing any drivability problems?? Hesitation? Inability to reach high RPM's?

Yep, motor won't rev over 5K RPM, otherwise runs fine.

I had similar codes, same problem. Save yourself a lot of time and money and just replace the MAF sensor. The MAF sensor has its own codes that never came up for me which made me look in other directions before I finally just replaced the little bugger and was done with it. My car wouldn't rev past 5k rpm or so. It would spit and backfire. Very frustrating when you're driving a Porsche. I'd clean the MAF sensor and it would run well for a few days then go back to the same old story but it never threw a MAF code.

Do you know how to access the engine? Takes just a few minutes. The MAF sensor is held in by two screws (takes a special "safety torx" bit to remove). You can buy MAF sensor cleaner at the auto parts store for 5 bucks. If you remove and clean the MAF sensor and your car runs better for a while then goes back to the same problem, voila. The MAF sensor was about $270 from Pelican which was, ounce for ounce, more expensive then drugs but far more satisfying.

After I replaced the MAF sensor, it was like driving a new car.

It sounds like we experienced the exact same problem!!!

Runs like crap above 5K rpm, but the malfunction codes never indicate the MAF.

I have cleaned the MAF twice and it does improve the engine performance.

Since I can't for the life of me figure out the common point between suposedly running rich, and lean at the same time I am at a dead end.

I throughly checked for vacuum leaks and found none.

I am done cranking around trying to figure this one out. Going to order a new MAF sensor tonight.

Were you using a K&N air filter prior to your problems?

I have been using one for the last 30K miles and am wondering if this caused my problems?

All,

My multiple fault codes listed earlier were caused by a faulty MAF sensor.

Car runs absolutely as new with new MAF sensor installed.

Thanks to everyone for their input on resolving this.

Now if I can just figure out what is wrong with the damn keyless entry I will be set!!!!

Do not use K&N filters on cars with maf sensors. The oil used on the filter element will foul the sensor. Use only Mahle,hengst or factory filters. Its okay to use K&N on the older cars with the barn door sensor&I haven't had problems with the hot wire type either. The Maf sensors are pretty much junk when new.Had many failures on Porsche,M.B.&VW products. Not as big a problems on BMW though. Go figure that one.
