Turn Signal Sound

All the electricals in my 2000 Boxster work as designed EXCEPT that when the turn signal are on (or the hazzards for that matter) there is not sound (click click click)

I suspect the relay needs to be replaced.

Anyone have a similar issue? How did you resolve it?

Where is the relay for the turn signal? Driver footwell?

All 986s I ever saw/drove had very quiet turn signals.

My turnsignals on my Boxster S are also very quiet - almost silent.

It's just the car.

I frequently forget mine are on because they are so quiet.

I agree. I feel like grandpa crusing in the fast lane at 78 mph with the left side blinker going on.

Is there a different relay which would give a little more audio feedback?

I find the best "relay" is an active set of eyes and active and not passive driving. Even though mine cancel, many times I leave my fingertips on the edge so when I am done turning, they turn off.

I guess I side with the other side that can't stand loud turn signals. Hate em.

My Suburban truck has a neat feature that beeps at you loudly and repeatedly when your blinker has been on for more than two minutes or so. Annoying, but useful. You'd think the Germans would have picked up on that.

Yes, but consider the German mindset when it comes to driving. Remember it was the Germans were so reluctant to put cup holders in their cars.

I bet their thinking is;

"Pay more attention to your instruments, you don't need a 'reminder' you left your blinker on."

Well, I am "grampa" and I've done it too. Here you are cruising down the freeway mile after mile when you decide to move over. You reach for the lever to signal and realize it's been signalling for all those miles.

Oh well, at least I wasn't doing 60 in the left lane.

You know, these days everything is on the steering wheel. Radio, shifters, I think even mirror adjustments on some car, I don't remember. Why not a friggin' set of blinker lights?

Oh, on Wayne's SUV, I think you can look out the window and see the mirrors blinking. That'll work.

RNajarian, you're a smart guy. I think you should get some optical fibers and run them from the lights to a heads up display! Let me know when it's finished.

Jeremy Clarkson pointed out the problem with this on the new Ferrari 458 - when you turn the wheel, the signal buttons are both out of reach and upside down. So if you start to turn and then need to activate your signal, you basically can't.

Ha ha. I think the vehicle code states that you must turn your signal on 50 feet before the turn.

But, if you live on a curved street and want to turn in the same direction to a drive, I guess you live on a street that is really curved to have the buttons out of reach. Too bad for 458 owners, huh?

There are no vehicles with turn signals on the wheel itself. FMVSS (federal motor vehicle safety standards) require them to be on a stalk and to all operate the same way.

Same reasons why all cars must have hazard switches on the dash and labelled the same, headlight switches in the same spots, etc. All required by law to be within a certain specification area.
