Aux input on CDR-23?

Hi Wayne,
I too have a CDR23 in my GT3 and want to somehow get an ipod jack for it, and not replace the head unit. I spoke to Becker, and they said there is no way to do it because the 2004 and newer Porsches with CDR23 and newerget signal via fiber optics, and there is no AUX jack.

Have you found any other work around? or am I stuck with the cigarette lighter FM transmitter adapter thing?

I think you're right, there doesn't appear to be an AUX input on the later style radios. The FM tuner adapter works surprisingly well though. My only complaint about it is that the volume is a bit softer than when playing direct from a CD.

FYI, I found an alternative solution. Denison Gateway 500. Talked to Eric Sklut, Bumperplugs guy, and he said it works perfectly on a MOST system, and specifically all 2003-2008 Porsche's, and not too terribly difficult to install. I will check it out, and if it works, report back.

Please keep us informed of your progress.. I too have a CDR-23 with the Bose System in my '03 S, and I'd dearly love to find a way to be able to connect my Zune to the in car stereo system.

***UPDATE***

I installed the Denison Icelink Gateway500 unit into our 2004 GT3 with CDR23 Porsche head unit this weekend. Our car DOES NOT have a separate amp, or CD changer, or that full screen display (I think called the PCM or something) - just the head unit and speakers.

Installation was very easy, the hardest thing was figuring out where to run power from (for now, I have it going right to the battery).

It works GREAT!! and you can change tracks with the head unit control knob, therefore not having to reach for the iPode (iPhone) each time.

I ordered the unit from Eric Sklutt, Bumperplugs guy, as noted below. He sent me all kinds of great info on how to install, and was very helpful. Here is a link to his page where it's listed: Bumperplugs.com

The installation diagram from Denison is pretty self explanatory, but as I said, Eric gives some great suplimental data to make it easier. Plus, there are a few guys that installed it previousy that have documented it in pictures and diagrams that Eric will send you links to.

If you DO NOT have a CD Changer right now, you will have to take the car to the local dealer and have them 'turn on' the CD changer functionality in the head unit. It's easy, and they should know how to do it. I just got it done today. That's how the unit "knows" that there is an aux component installed.

Hey all, not to dredge up a long dead subject, but as an owner of several Porsches (now 996 C4S) I too have encountered the frustration of the Becker units. My current ride has the CDR23, no BOSE. I am not too familiar with the "un-seen" setup (i.e. whether there is an amp or not) but I know replacing the head unit is not necessarily an option unless I also want to rewire the speaker system.

A recent google search revealed the following Aux solution from Becker themselves (aux_input). Apparently, if you send them your head unit, they will install an Aux setup for you (at the cost of $100 plus shipping). Has anyone tried this?

Alternatively, has anyone tried to replicate the process on their own? It seems like it would be fairly straight forward for anyone familiar with the internals of the Becker CDR23.

2005 boxsters with bose and cdr24. ....Becker soldered aux unit into head unit. $100 bucks and they give you as much lead lire as you want. the aux unit is very small and can easily be fished under console. ..running sirius....it would be nice if they accessed the cd leg instead of the fm kernel..... better fidelity

I have a 2004 S with a Bose & CDR23. What was the turnaround time for Becker? Do you think they could work off the cd leg? I want to run my iTouch and would prefer to run it off the 32 (?) pin connection instead of the earphone output.
