Question on Boxster Window Regulator

I am pretty sure that I need to replace the window regulator on my 2004 Boxster because the auto-drop is not working. I still am not clear if I have to disconnect the battery before I go into the door and remove the airbag. I have read elsewhere that it is not necessary, but that I should not have the key in the ignition when I do remove the airbag. What do you think?
