Question on proper window operation
I wanted to try to document here the complete correct window action.
I have a 01 Boxster S, the winow was working fine brought it in for an oil change and they indicated window not fine...and sure enough when I got it back, the window was acting goofy.. So I wanted to MAKE SURE of the complete proper window operation, If you could please answer in a complete, but succinct manner and reference the specific step , I think everyone would appreciate it. If you have other scenarios to add, that would be helpful. Please state any assumptions or starting states so its clear. 1) lets assume starting with door closed, locked and top up and lock and car empty. My believe is the following operation is proper. a) I hit the remote unlock and open the door. When the doors open, the window is suppose to go down slightly. b) I open the door, get in, close door and the doors autolock. (Maybe I had to turn engine on and start, dont recall). c) I unlock the soft top and move it down via the toggle controller. Windows should not do anything. If they are open, they stay open. If they are closed, they stay closed. d) I close the top and lock it. The windows should close completely on both sides. (Incidentally, the driver side starts to close, gets to about the 1/2 way point and then opens to about the 1/4 way point and stops - seems not correct action). The passenger window closes. e) exiting the car. Since the doors autolocked from step c) I can either use the toggle switch to unlock, or start to open the door handle to unlock. Once the door is unlocked, then open the handle again and the window should open slightly (4mm) . (Frankly, I get impression that this does not happen quickly enough, but whatever). My main issue driving all of this is step c). The door locks and unlocks fine, I can manually move the window up and down with out issue, but yet when the window autocloses, it seems to stop as in step d). Any thoughts on issue? Proper step to program the window? thks |

My windows don't respond to the key fob buttons as I recall. Here's how mine works:
-When you open either door, the windows lowers just a tad (technical term). Close the door, it goes back up. -release the top lock & BOTH windows should drop a few inches. They stay put until you move them or re-lock the top. When the top is re-locked, they both should completely close. The only exception would be if a door was still open, in which case the window will *almost* close, completely closing when the door closes. My doors don't auto-lock; I have to use the fob or inter-lock button inside to lock the doors. I hope that helps.

I guess my concern is directly related to d) above.
When I close the top, it seems the drivers window starts to close, but then stops and opens to 1/4 closed position (meaning 25% closed, 75% open). But if I just close the window normally, it will auto closes completely and I can manually move it up and down fully without issue. Im trying to understand this starting to auto close to 50% ad then backing off to 25% issue when I dont see to have any other issues with the switches.. anyone have insight here? Intermittent microswitch someplace?? Thoughts |
