I have a friend that owns 2002 mini, it has had the PS pump replaced from the dealer about a month ago. however now the voltage guage is only reading around 10 Volts & when I went to the Battery compartment to check voltage there I almost burnt my hand because the Positive battery post was smokin hot. after some test it became apparent that it heat up while steering is in use. have you ever heard of this?

I have not seen that issue. Could be due to a faulty alternator. I would check the starting / charging system.

If the battery terminal is physically hot, it has a high resistance connection. Disconnect the battery ground post FIRST, then the positive terminal, and use a wire brush to clean the posts and the clamps. That may not fix the issue, but it will fix something that may be contributing to the problem.
