Question on Window Regulator Replacement

Is there a special way to remove the motor from the regulator? I bought a second hand regulator but the motor is knackered. The Motor on the old regulator is good so I want to swap over.
When I removed the good motor from the broken regulator the gearbox came off and released all the cables. Anyway to get around it?
