Does the R53 have an IBS unit?

Does a 2006 Mini Cooper S need to be programmed after battery replacement, or go to the dealer?
Thanks

If it has an intelligent battery sensor (IBS), yes. The battery has to be registered.

I do not believe the R53 has an IBS unit. Those units came on the 2nd gen R56 MINI.
