I am trying to remove the two 6mm allen screws that hold the charcoal canister. The screws will rotate, with some resistance and then *thump* into position after rotating exactly 90 degrees. It acts like there is a square nylon nut that is rotating along with the screw. I cannot see or feel the nut so I cant hold it from turning. Has anyone encountered this and know a solution?

The nut inside the plastic has failed. Your only option is to try to hold them still with visegrips while loosening. If that doesn't work, drill the bolts out and replace the bolts and mounting bracket.
