i have a 2008 mini cooper convertible base that is stuck in first gear. I changed the transmission fluid and filter without any result. i also hear a groaning noise on the right side when i first drive off and then it goes away. could that be a bearing or the drive axle? what should i try next

You may have worn internal parts in the trans. First, remove the shift cables, can you manually shift the trans into neutral ?
