What V8 engine is this?
I posted this thread on the Off Topic board last night and picked up a few tips.
Consensus seems to be GM LS1 5.7. Just wondering if anyone here can narrow down the details of what this engine might be? The barcode sticker on the head and engine number might help. Anyone here familiar with these engines? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yep LS1.
best way to tell is start it up and listen for the piston slap ![]() |

it's an LS1 from a 2003 VY commodore. Piston slap was only an issue on the early VT motors (1999).
Sump is aftermarket and other than that there's no way of telling what else is modified. Check out similar stuff on ebay for what it's likely to be able to be sold for, but I don't think it'll recover your missing $3k. They are worth a lot less as a long motor without the ECU, loom, a/c, P/S pumps and alternator etc. |

Early VT ('97) was 5.0L then when the LS1 was delayed they briefly ran a stroker in the Aussie 5.0 also bringing it out to 5.7L (355). Then in '99 the LS1 was available. So 3 different V8's in the one model lol
