				What engine is this V8?

I have just moved out some tenants who owe me a few dollars. They have left this engine in the garage to cover their debt but I know jack shiit about V8s other than they have 8 cylinders. Our parting has been less than congenial, so I haven't been able to get any info from them about the engine.

So I am wondering what I have inherited here, and what is it worth. Keep in mind that this engine is in Australia and is most likely out of an Aussie V8 (GM or Ford), but I know there is a lot of engine-sharing between Aus and US models, so some of you may recognise it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That looks like a HSV engine. Probably from a Senator early 2000s. It's worth maybe $3 to 4 grand if it's not fuched. Not bad really. ![]() Good luck with the sale.

You have one hell of a score on your hands. It's either an GM ls1 or ls6- that oil pan alone is worth some serious grip.

If they left THAT behind must've been a significant debt. Wish it was closer, I'd buy it from you. rjp

It's a 2004 LS1 from what we'd call the Pontiac GTO and what you'd call the Holden Monaro CV8

Certainly it is not stock anymore, and has been apart at least once Good luck! Its worth plenty even as individual pieces

Willing to bet it's a runner. Al the intakes/openings have been covered. Someone took the time to seal it up for a reason. That winch in the background looks like a beast. Might be worth a couple of bucks if it works.

I'm curious about the sticker with barcode on the back of one of the heads. Also, I know we can decode Porsche engine numbers, but is there some formula for decoding GM numbers?

You can get new LS1 crate motor for right around $3,000.

Although that motor may not be stock. Oil filter has been relocated which you typically do for a race application. Depending on what's been done it may be worth that or more.

3MA is the GM build code for a 2004 Pontiac GTO LS1....roughly 345hp Casting number 12561168 is a LS6 or late LS1 aluminum block (both 5.7L) The 2004 Holden Monaro / Pontiac GTO, Chevy SSR, and the C5 Corvette were the last vehicles to use the LS1, both replaced by the 6.0L LS2 the following year The etched serial number won't tell you anything

You may wish to run the serial numbers by the police before you look at selling it. |

Atmost that is $1000. That oil pan is a few hundred. Being a 5.7 its a LS1. The short block is a $100. junkyard piece. The cylinder heads may be worth another $150. with rockers. Complete LS1s are very cheap running with harness and computer.
