Calling the doctors- suture question
So it’s been two weeks since I had a torn tendon repaired on the top of my elbow. I call it Timmy James surgery. It’s for husbands who over contribute in the household and tear their tendon. Wife doesn’t buy it.
Anyway, sutures come out tomorrow. I got curious and removed the steristrips only to find what looked like two pieces of blue monofilament sticking out of the area at separate ends of the incision. No knots or anything the many stitches I have had in the past. To make things more interesting, when I gently pull on one end, the other moves! So my question is, what is this type of suture called? My doctor says the just pull on one end and the other end slides right out. Thanks |

Prolene. Blue is Prolene.
When it's time, just cut the knot (if there is one) and pull one end till it all comes out. It's likely some sort of running stitch.

Running subcuticular, gives a nice cosmetic closure if'n the patient has decent tissue. Polypropylene is nice for this sort of stuff because it slides easily. It stretches a little, so I like it on people I expect to see swell. Sort of ties crappy knots though.

Thanks Tobra. The incision area is quite tidy, but then again it’s my elbow so cosmetics are low in the list. I appreciate the insight.

When you have a scar in an area that moves, frequently it will move better if the scar is not as thick and hard. Scars look tough, and chicks dig 'em, better to avoid them precipitating the need to actually be tough though.
Talk to the surgeon about using Mederma or Cicacare. For the first year or so you have it, you want to protect a scar from UV light. Get high number sunscreen and put it on the scar daily, once the incision is completely healed. Really, everybody ought to wear sunscreen all the time, but it is pretty difficult talk a dude into doing that.

Yea, chicks love scars.
Problem is my "good" scar from the hip replacement so I have to drop my pants to show it. Somehow an old grey haired geezer mooning women does work. And I am married anyhow.

~~~~~~~~ Life has sent the message...I'm talked into it. Just had a dime size cancer removed from my upper nose. They dug twice...finally got it. A big hole that's now healing. I used to clean my pool buck naked in the hot AZ sun...loved getting all tan and manly looking. ![]() No more..........
You could have the stitches removed by a professional, or you could DIY.
Suture self. Mine were three separate knots …...and they were spectacular. Bill K ![]()
