experience with ford edge or exploder?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger and get a new vehicle, the f150 has over 100k on it.

I'm considering a ford edge or explorer.
Anyone have any personal experience with either, or care to share an opinion? (i know, asking for an opinion on PPOT)

A friend of mine just bought a new one the other day- single guy with grown kids, a Platinum edition in mandatory corporate office-dweller dark grey.

I think he looks like a douchebag in it but whatever floats his boat.

No long term experience.

I rented an Explorer for two weeks last year when we visited UAS test sites all over the West: China Lake, Edwards, Yuma, White Sands, etc.

It had 25K on the odometer and had no rattles or noises. I was very impressed. Very enjoyable.

When my wife's 4Runner becomes unreliable, the Explorer is on my list.

I drive my Edge almost every day. Ford Ranger Edge...2004..last year for that package.
Then they used the Edge name a couple years later for the suv.
Sorry..can't help.

Ford Edge.........

I have looked at the Edge a couple of times recently. Yesterday, for the first time, I got to sit in one. I am a bit over 6 feet tall and had to move the drivers seat all the way back and down to drive. Even so, there was only about 1" of clearance between the top of my head and the headliner. Also, it felt a bit cozy for my taste. Of course, my daily driver is a Ford F150 crewcab so I am used to having lots of room. With the assortment of engine options, you should not have any problem finding one that offers enough performance. For me, I don't think I will be buying one. Maybe an Explorer, will have to check them out also. Happy hunting.

I don't own an Edge personally but my BIL has the older body style and a new body style. My FIL has the new body style. Both love the vehicles.

Did it have a sunroof? I always feel like my head will hit the headliner in vehicles with a sunroof.

I just rented an Explorer. It was pretty good. Not as quiet or buttery on the road as my old Cayenne, but still impressive.

I typically like to rent the little one, the Escape. With the EccoBoost (in-cylinder injection & turbo) they get phenomenal fuel economy.

Ford embraces tech in a good way.

I rented an Explorer in Boston last winter and was quite impressed with it.
Very nice and roomy. Went like a scalded cat when you got on it.
Have no idea what motor was in it.

Pretty much the same with me, My mom has a Lincoln version of the edge and I put a couple hundred miles on it driving her around and it feels a little cramped.

That's why I was asking about the exploder too, I was figuring I would get used to the edge but I'm afraid it might feel smaller as time goes on.
I've been driving a pickemup for over 20 years and I'm used to the extra room.

I really like Lexus, but I don't fit in them, for that very reason.

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer that Eric (Kaisen) brokered for me that has been flawless. Eric tried to steer me to the then-new Explorer model with unibody construction but I was intent on getting the older model truck framed version. I got what I wanted, but I have experienced rental versions of the current model Explorers and found them surprisingly comfortable and capable. Eric is one of the most informed critics of modern motor vehicles that I've ever met, if not the most informed, so I would suspect that the current model Explorer and Edge are all that they say it is.

Why not go with an Expedition? I think you can get those with the ecoboost engine.

All of them are quite nice. I often defer to the Escape in the rental car lane, and have had a few Edges too. The Explorer is much bigger, we seriously considered an Explorer Sport Ecoboost for our next family trickster but ended up with a Flex Limited Ecoboost instead. The Explorer Sport, Flex, and Taurus share the same platform, the Ecoboost Sport is basically a Taurus SHO on stilts, as is the Flex Ecoboost.

Ford's got a turbo diesel coming in the F150 this year, maybe for the Explorer too? Love my turbo diesel MB.

I love my Escape ecboost. 70k trouble free miles. My parents have one and love it as wel. Never thought I’d say it, but ford has been turning out some great cars in the last few years.

I don't want to be a kill joy, but how about a Toyota. Might be smaller but very reliable.
