Rinty, so very sorry for your loss. That’s something that I cannot imagine.
Fortunately I only know individuals that have lost their spouses and families to a stressful and consuming career, not their lives. It’s not exclusive to medicine, but applies to many high stress highly compensated professionals.

Awful. Incredible to even say, but we lost a physician friend 3 weeks ago to the same affliction. He didn’t let on that he was that unwell to anyone, including his wife. I’ve heard that in the depths of depression the person truly believes their loved ones will be better off without them; of course they’re wrong. This afternoon we learned his heartbroken wife joined him.

Rinty, so sorry for your loss. My birth father committed suicide when he was 20. Long story about how I connected with remaining family on both sides 25 years ago. I've seen the impact on his siblings and my birth mom so many years later. Take care of yourself.
