Would somebody please remind me not to? You know just in case I ever have the opportunity.

They did. They have 4 months to get them outbefore normal flooding returns.

Each boy may have to individually be sedated, bagged in some kind of life-support contraption and pulled to safety, in and out of total submersion, by two rescuers. A very, very dangerous operation.

They can teach a scuba diving class for them, very motivated students. Then they can escort them out. Very lucky to find them still alive. A few more days of good eating and they will be recovered enough to to make a go of it.

Fingers crossed for them all.
oh no, hadn't heard that they are all no swimmers , further complicates things

I heard this on the radio driving to Yorktown, VA this morning.

My heart goes out to the kids and their coaches - getting stuck like that pin bangs my fear factor.

I read a report from a Navy Seal who does not recommend they dive the kids out at this point - very high risk. Apparently they have time as food can be delivered and pumps are on hand to keep the water from rising further. Looks like they are miles from the entrance - possible for a new access shaft to be dug?

Actually, I think the opposite is true. They’re currently in their monsoon season, Henderson the quickly rising waters that trapped them. They have 4 months until the flooding subsided that would allow them to exit the same way they went in.

What’s scary to me is that it sounds like a multi hour trip diving out. I wouldn’t want to do it en masse in case someone panics and takes out the whole operation. So even if they were to try diving it’s likely a couple weeks of back and forth making the trip.

Drilling an access seems to be the quickest to me. Are Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck and Steve Buscemi available?

Can you imagine.....

You go into a cave with likely one flashlight each. The water rises and you are forced to press on further in. No flashlight can last very long so they spend most of 10 days in total darkness.

No food, no light. Dang

I heard on the news he was sending folks...I think of cars and space....is that his arena too? This is some dicey stuff...that volunteer retired SEAL who lost his life is a true hero. Hoping and wishing for a positive outcome for all....

As a geologist I've worked on tunnel jobs and jobs where we drilled over 950 vertical feet into granite in just a couple of days. The boys are about a kilometer down. With directional boring you can aim for your target very accurately.

You could define your target by performing a simple "seismic refraction survey". This is done by setting off very small explosive charges in shallow auger holes, where the boys are. Vibrations travel through the rock and are picked up by a network of geophones at the surface. The geophones detect the compression waves at different times, depending on their distance from the source of the wave. Simple geometry defines the location of the source. A good oil well driller could get those boys out in no time.

Heard today that one consideration is to keep feeding them until October when the rains stop...then rescue them.
Wow....what a whore's nightmare.
How'd they get in there? Why?
