That's crazy. I guess I'd better put another lock on the storage unit where I keep the original five deep sixes for my car.

Crazy.
It looks like you can buy a brand new set of 7 & 8 x 16" fuchs from Porsche for $4,338.

Yes. You first forced me to fork over those pre-escalation Porsche dollars. I did send them out to Al Reid for refinishing. I’ve got about $2k into the set.

I think it's a reflection of the current state of the bubble, only the best cars are going for top dollar these days. I'm restoring a 76 Carrera 3.0 for a customer to as "seen on the showroom floor" condition making it a pain in the butt cross between a restoration and preservation. Took me 9 months and a ton of luck to find front and rear date matched Koni struts and shocks, 23 75. It's this level of detail that is setting cars apart these days.

Hard to imagine that they are so valuable. I suspect my 911s are pretty plain jane...but they do have perfect bodies and paint as I hardly ever drive them...even though they are in very good mechanical condition. Mine seem less special today to me than when I bought them. Guess I just take them for granted. No time to drive them and no one I know really appreciates them but me..so not even really any bragging rights. Oh well. Maybe when I retire I will have more time/interest in hobbies.
