Loud to me is occasionally touching 90db.

That's not very loud.

That said, most home systems will fatigue the listener at high levels. That's my biggest issue with them.

Well not really the system but the room. I did a proper room in the last house and high SPL was easy to listen to, up to concert levels. Still working on the plan details for this room.

you've hit upon the shortcoming that dooms almost all home systems!

The room!

I wasn’t sure how that scales to other systems so figured I’d give a reference point. Sounds like it’s pretty modest!

Back to my thread hijack.... :)

What's the consensus on Rotel ... saw the RC-1572 MKII yesterday ... any others that I should consider?

Initially, for my Carver 4.0t. I had forgotten about CAR and thought they were history ... Thanks Greg! Did they "hot rod" yours ... and which mods? My 4.0t might need help... my two 1.0s need Jesus to bring them back to life ;)...

If I "mod" them .... do they all become "essentially the same" amps... just curious? Which "version" of mods would you suggest ... is the TFM "mod" a discernable change/upgrade from the original 1.0t or 4.0t? In what way...

Any other pre-amp suggestions?

Thanks!

greglepore 02-21-2025 04:34 AM

Actually not that familiar w/ those amps. Ive been a TFM guy. If you like the TFM sound, he can accomplish that, but its not necessary if you prefer the more solid state sound.
Neilon Audio also has a good reputation in the Carver world.

Just a data point, I had my TFM recapped locally and it ran all of 6 mths before other components in one channel rendered it unusable. I would do a full service and not just a recap.

KC911, If newer Rotel is anything like the older products it is quite good. A friend and I did a lot of amplifier comparison when she was setting up a system, the smaller Rotel amps held their own against larger more powerful and much more expensive amps. I remember the store sales person being quite surprised but could also tell the difference. If I remember right she ended up with a couple RB1090 and a Bryston 10b electronic crossover.

Rotel has always been sold Im sure that pre amp is fine, it has alot of features and inputs which is the true joy of a nice pre.

in a similar price range, and has everything but the kitchen sink, including true bass managed sub integration (rare and usefull to have high pass sub filters in a pre), is the parasound halo

https://www.audioadvice.com/products/parasound-halo-p6-2-1-channel-preamplifier-dac-black?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA5eC9BhAuEiwA3CKwQ kNyIcVZdsyvJCntjpj_dJglJG9YB0HaNKXi4AKhnNZSt17JMoT KfRoCQHgQAvD_BwE

If you really want to nerd out sith something very transparent, very flexible, built in dirac room correction, and super high measured performance, there is the mini dsp shd. It is what I use and I have a very nice audio research pre in the closet as well as a bryston pre available until recently. The big butt is that it is not straightforward to configure. You will need a laptop and have to do a bit off homework. Its ideal if you are a "tinkerer".

Thanks guys! I was looking at the Adcom preamp/DAC and then saw the Rotel ...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1740162741.jpg

I thought Rotel had a decent rep... this preamp would be the most expensive thingy ... overkill for my "old" stuff ... but melikey ... remote, "future" sources, etc.

I'm sure my Carver 4.0t could use a refresh .... rode HARD at times and idled for daze on end... stacked with the two 1.0t ... I ABUSED them :D

Soooo..... this Rotel into a Carver 4.0t into Polk SDA 2.3s... all optical inputs via a switch?

....or mebbe into a Sony ES TN9000 (switched to 2-ch) into Polk SDA 1A ...

What say ye .... either will make me :).

The largest Polks .... later :D

Thanks ... still open for ideas....

The Room Remains The Same ...

Warts and all :)

Thanks all!

Aschen .... I just saw you post ... I'll be back later :)

Need bigly advice on new stuff ... that I might actually listen too ... for once ;)

Did someone say loud? Thats only part of the equation, low distortion is another.
Some of may have seen this in another thread. 300W per driver times 6 drivers. 2 for the horns. 2 for the bass bins, 2 for the subs.

When I see a system like that, in a room like that, I just have to shake my head.

From my perspective, about 80% of audiophile systems are more about visual impact than measurable sound quality. I don't fit well into this world but if it floats your boat, get 'er done!

Nope and nope.

That music is more like a jazz recording than rock.

And 80 dB ain't nothin.

Clearly you streamed a sample and completely missed the mark. Try Hey, Where’s My Drink Package or D-grade F*** Movie Jam. Turn it up.

Well in my case is is about the sound. I am fortuinate to have a building seperate from my house. Its basically divided into thirds. 1/3 is a shop to build things, work on cars, etc., 1/3 is the audio party room seen above, the last 1/3 is a upstairs man cave bar. Each have thier own audio system. My friends say I have a problem..... I say I have 3 hobbies AAA, alcohol, automobiles and audio. The winters are long here in Minnesota.

I would prolly close my eyes and pretend to be Stevie Wonder...

Writings on the wall .... :D

"I have A problem" .... who knew you could group them like that?

Is there a limit ... :)?

I'm also no longer on a-gon, are you talking about Opus equipment? They do have a website, can you send them an info request? Check with your CC company.

KFC911 02-28-2025 10:42 AM

Thank You! Yep ... I saw "Opus" hand-written on the box ... but had no clue what that meant :D
