Anyone here NOT have internet at home?

Yes, I get the irony of asking such a question on the internet. My wife and I have smartphones and can use them if we need to contact anyone, satellite for TV. Later this year I'm going to cut the satellite (Dish network, very happy with them but time to move on) get high speed internet, WIFI, and a ROKU. I rather enjoy telling people we don't have an internet connection at home and watching them make funny faces... my wife, not so much... however she is WAY more concerned with what other people think than I am. As in she tried to do her time card on her iPhone and it came out all wrong. The agency had seen this before and asked if she was using her phone to post her time card numbers and it no workie that way. She told her supervisor this and supervisor told her to do it on the internet to which my wife replied "we don't have internet at home" Supervisor looked at her like she had three heads (much to my wife's dismay). My first response to hearing this was "doing your time cards is work related and you shouldn't be doing it at home." And "people in third world countries don't have internet and that is two thirds of the worlds population or more." To which my wife retorted "well, we do not live in a third world county!" I see that many of you post here from your phones so you don't necessarily need internet to post here (yes, I know technically you ARE on the internet just accessing it with your phone but let's not get all pedantic here) just wondering if I am the last of the Mohicans.

I went a few months without it. I survived. My company broke down and gave me free Verizon wireless service. When my boss called me I enjoyed telling him I would have to drive back to work to send the info he wanted. Your wife could tether her phone and her laptop to do a time card.

I have no cable tv/satellite. I do have high speed internet provided through the cable provider. I have no phone. I do use a ROKU. It is the best decision I made. We do not watch a lot of tv but for my husband's job WIFI and high speed internet makes things easier.

Yes, you are the last of the Mohicans. I think Satellite and cable companies are already taking a beating and that is nothing compared to what is coming. My older son, 25 years old never had either does not want them. Uses Internet for all his entertainment. From Netflix to You Tube. Myself? We unplugged maybe 8 years ago? I was sick of the price for broadcast TV and really never watched it. We upped our Internet speed and only stream what we want when we want. Right now we have cable for another 10 months or so, it was included free in a 2 year bundle which we will opt out of when the free part expires. I only use it for F1. I could not function at home without internet, I am tied to my office cloud so I can work from home, plus a lot of things in my house are all tied into my smart phone now. i.e. Ring Doorbell and security cams, Nest HVAC, even my damn coffee maker is on wifi now. Congrats for holding out so long. Welcome to the world of streaming.

One reason I have been holding out is because my wife spends an inordinate amount of time playing with her phone... I foresee a table/laptop in our future and after dinner I may not hear from her until bedtime... plus at work I'm on the computer so at home I like to disconnect... I also have a deep dark secret... when I'm alone at home I have been known to.... READ A BOOK!!! Hope I won't get banned from this site for revealing that. My house is piled with books, at some point the thought police will kick in my door and drag me away. They can have my books... when they pry them out of my cold dead hands. If you find this post confusing Google 'books'

But get this... we are sitting on couch, her on her iPhone,me on my cheap Android large format (Copy of a Samsung Note) my phone has 2-4 bars, she has zero bars. WIFI calling will solve all of that. Plus I have been tracking the cable companies Data prices and they have finally become reasonable. We only have one cable company in our area so I am handcuffed to them. $30 for 30Mpbs down 3Mpbs up $50 for 100Mpbs down 10Mpbs up

Three months now no internet. Straight talk unlimited data on phone ($56) for Youtube/Netflix which I use when falling asleep. It's flawless. Miss Pelican yakking at home. I can do it on phone but not the same as desktop layout. I have a stash of old movies and old music. Enjoyable. Almost like books but not really.

My vacation home has no television, phone, or internet. There's no need because it's a beautiful place near the lake surrounded by forests and two ski slopes... plus there's tons of offroad trails! I stay there for a max of two weeks at a time and i'm perfectly happy with no distractions. Cell reception is spotty there, but civilization is a short drive away. If I were to live day to day without internet, I don't think I could do that. Current home has internet but no tv. My area is a no reception zone on any provider so I have the need to keep my land line. Most everything tv show wise can be watched on the internet anyway, just gotta get a bigger screen!

I'm hooked on internet information, which is a 24/7 god send for anything missing from the brain. T.V.? I could probably go cold turkey. Moms got 200 channels of cable. 5 are regurgitated regular shows. 90 are infomercials. The rest are all pay-per-view. Paying to watch commercials is not logical nor efficient.

I did for a great period of years, would post to Pelican from a laptop when out and away. No smart phone either. Now I'm working from home, so have it again. Not having internet at home had a drawback where if I was working on a car, and needed to order something, etc, couldn't just do it right then and there. I also had to keep one car in working order or else I'd be quite grounded. Having one car down for a longer project, and then needing to take care of an item on car two was far more stressful as I had to have everything in hand and accounted for without error before starting. With connected smart phones(which I still don't have), I don't see how you would miss it. | ||

Went for nearly a year without internet or cell service; we have Dish for TV and a landline phone. The local ISP didn't have the capability to reach the more remote areas. It was ok, but a bit inconvenient; we drove about 15 min to access 4G towers to do email, etc....and do grocery shopping, etc. Later, the ISP invested in LTE equipment...received internet, but wasn't great. The bottom line is, a year later the LTE is a bit more reliable, not blazing speed (ave 15-25 mbs with drops to 1-3), but hopefully when my Dish contract expires next year, the speed will be stable enough to cut the cord and go to streaming.

I live in 2018, not 1981 so I have fast internet at home, and cell service on my cell phone, and cable TV. I have three computers in my home office. I remember the days of no internet, it was normal for most of my life. I also remember the days of no air conditioning, and three channels of B&W TV only. I ain't going backwards, I am happy with new technology. It makes my life better and easier. Every so often I deal with a bank or government or a CPA and I have to travel back to the mid 1980s and send or receive a FAX. I am always happy to come back to the future where email and texting and cable TV exist. I know one person that does not like a digital camera, and shoots photos in B&W on film. It takes him all day to see the result of a photo. If you actually like living without, great, power to ya. BTDT, I ain't going back. I am from the future!

No way. I could give up cable TV no problem. I could give up my smart phone as easy. I have a VOIP phone that works just fine for $4/month. I need the internet for info and entertainment because my Firestick needs the internet too.
