I'm done with the mosquitos! It has been so wet this summer that I haven't had to water my garden at all but the mosquis are having a baby boom!

It is all in Lake Okeechobee, they release that polluted water down canals towards us on the coast and ruin our waterways every summer.

Short version of long history. A dyke was built around the lake in the 30's after a bad hurricane caused it to flood a town and drown everyone in it.

Instead of letting the water still run to the South into the Everglades they created a canal system with locks so you can go across from Atlantic to Gulf in the middle of the state.

They use same canals to lower the level of the lake when too full.

That water should be heading to everglades where plants would filter it, instead is hits us, reduces salinity and kills brackish plants and sea life and brings this algae that blooms in the warm water and creates toxic water and air.

Kills our tourism and ruins our way of life here. We have to drive 20 miles north or south to go to beach now. Happy I have a pool.

51 * this morning. 78* right now with 53% humidity. I wish it would stay like this year round but snow and below zero are not that far off.

It has been 90* here with 70%+ humidity. Been sweating like a pig. Now we have a hurricane on its way. Yay!

No, I am not. Another summer gone is one summer closer to death.

Hey there, Mr. Sunshine! We are awfully lucky to get 70 or 80 summers that we can actually enjoy.

I really like fall here. Usually nice days and cool or even cold evenings.
I really don't like what comes after fall although I enjoy taking the boy skiing....

Cold evenings indeed. Jerry Keyser and I drove our 356s up the Canadian Rockies in August 35 years ago. We got a real dose of reality when we woke up in Calgary and had to scrape the frost off our windshields with credit cards. Back home the am temps were in the 70s and frost was 3 months away.

I wait for the first morning that I feel a chill. It's been around 70º and as high as 73 at the coolest time of day, 5 to 6 am for 2 months. When I was 20 years old I worked all night in the summers with a t-shirt on and nothing more. Can't do that at 73 but I wish.

The day time is miserable and here in SoCal and we are only in the middle of summer. Another month and a half to 2 months before jackets required, even at night.

I have some flannel and wool shirts, some jackets and a couple of sweatshirts. Seems stupid to use up closet space for these items as they get used for 2 months max. I think I wore long pants last February. Maybe not.

I was in the High Country this past weekend. In some areas the Aspens are already starting to turn. Usually the fall colors don't start kicking in until the first week of Sept. Signs of an early winter in the Colorado Mountains? I'm a skier, so I hope so!

Temps in the 90's for weeks. Forest fire smoke so bad you drive with your headlights on in daytime. Town clogged with tourists and campers (rude people). Not worth trying to go to the lake....Vacation rental next door occupied 28 of 31 days in July, up to 9 cars at a time.......

September/October is my Fav time of year.

If you are meaning it is summer until you have to wear a Jacket, then January, sometimes.

Haha. I’m tomato critical right now. Lots of them from friends. My own plants are not great.

Melted some down tonight for a sauce. Took about 10 of the fruit. Not even a dent.

I’ll spare you the pic

For the last 2 years we have had worse wildfire smoke than the previous 48 here in the PNW- messed up my hiking and camping plans.
So I'm ready for the season change and accompanying weather patterns that will bring back clear air.
And... I love back to school time because the kids and their parents are busy during the week and I get more peace and solitude up in the mountains!

Today was the first really crisp, 60's, morning with dry air. We'll get at least a few more days of low 90's and high humidity but short blasts.

The next three month here are spectacular.

Our tomato plants SUCKED! Water... water and water some more and they were just duds
I have been noticing that the corn has started to yellow and even brown a bit. The nice green soybean fields are slowly turning yellow. It's coming but I'm pondering getting a solar blanket for the pool to fight it.

I want to do a top down drive in the NE during the height of fall colors. I absolutely love fall. I go into sensory overload.
