In this reverse discrimination crazy P.C. world, a person gets fired for using the N word 35 years ago. OK, I get it. The N word is wrong but one time 35 years ago? Really? How about honky, cracker... these are used every day today but no one gets upset...

Potentially messed up, or maybe not. I had a woman call me a cracker many years ago (1994, I think), she was shoplifting from the store that I worked at. She was intending to make me mad or maybe just insult me. I thought it was pretty funny.

I think he should get a good lawyer involved. He's an old fella so the payout could be a good pension for him. I'm sure there is a statue of limitations, or the laws applicable at the time of the offence etc.

I think the whole situation is unfortunate, why should anyone care what might have been said 35 years in a certain context. Comedians make good money out of such things to this very day.

Yes I agree that a lawyer should be consulted and I would think the statute of limitations would be involved. That is a time limit should be involved so no suing after a certain time otherwise many folks would be challenged and paying for their questionable behavior many years ago.

My mom (RIP) who didn't have a bigoted bone in her body would call Brazil nuts n***er toes.
Of course as an adult she stopped doing that.
However in her late 70's she started slipping... used the term at a family gathering... my niece "GRANDMA!!!"

On the other hand it is foolish to compare the N word to honky, cracker, whitey... do I really need to crack open the history books to point out how poorly American has treated black people?

Much like women and words, you can call any one of us a dick or a cock and we are like... huh... what? But use the B or C word and you might get slapped upside the face.

Having said that, 35 years is a bit much to dig up dirt on anyone for using a word.
