Yeah, but that's where they (the guys who were working for me) wanted eat. It's cheap, supposedly fast, and just down the street from the lumber company. I planned to buy them their lunch and head to the lumber company while they ate. I'm not a fan of Taco Bell personally.

Yes, that, exactly. This is like the folks that are walking out of the grocery store and stop to chat in the middle of the entrance. I'm happy for you to chat, if you walk another 10 feet out of the entrance and then move off to the side.

Or the other day, I was at the grocery store and one of the delivery folks pulled up behind parked cars while they loaded 2 carts full of bags into their minivan. One of the guys came out to leave and was stuck in his park because they were in no hurry to leave. But it was really convenient for them where and how they had "parked".

Thanks Jeff, you can always be counted on to lead with a personal insult. I am surprised that you would come down on the side of the phone addicts, though. Are you one of those people who jabbers away on his phone until you get to the head of the line and only then looks up at the menu board to decide what you want to order?

You should have told the dimwit hey move up let's get with it. I can't wait all day for your sorry azz to get done lolly gagging on the phone. I got work to do. Then if he ignored you bounce him in line.

So you were being a ride mtherfker.

It's also a lack of common sense. I stood close enough to the guy to see that he was looking at pictures on his phone. if I had bad intent and some skills I could have had his wallet and been out of there without him even noticing.

LOL! I don't know. I think it would be rude to look at someone's photos without being invited to.

You guys are doing this all wrong. If I am being held up by an inconsiderate or inattentive dolt while standing in line, I just give a quick tap on my horn. It gets their attention every time.

The person on the phone is being "that guy," rudely holding up the line for no real reason. I'm not easily shocked, but my jaw will drop to the ground the day someone says "You go ahead, I'm on my phone and don't want to hold things up."

You’re right! I could have started a conversation. “Wow, you hittin’ that? Props to you man if you’re hittin’ that, she’s hot. Look at them tits! Naw man! Can’t be your mom, hey, I think your burrito is ready.”
I could have made a friend.

Every single person hearing this story will have their own perceived version of how long the next person in line was unaware.
And the innerWebs is the perfect place to thump their chests about what they would've done, what they think about the OP actions, and then dig in on their opinion while stumping about how wrong, or right, it is.

We constantly hear all about how rude folks are today.
Phone addicts, close-standers, loud talkers, slow pokes...you name it.

Now it's my turn...I've also been in line at ( insert random establishment here ) and the person in front of me was unaware their turn was up. I waited a few moments, and if the inattention continued, I said "You're next".
No muss, no fuss, no huff...nothing. If I remember correctly, the person probably said " oh, thanks" or something along those lines.

My point? I see that as a perfect opportunity to take an action that's counter to the current social temp we hear so much about.

If WD has been in this situation so frequently to say " Ha! I did it AGAIN!", then I'd say he's looking for opportunities to be a dick. But I could be wrong.

Bear in mind, I'm no Florence Nightingale. I'm sure I've offended plenty of folks during my circuit around the sun.
With any luck, I just did.

either is a fine option. wait a moment and go around or tell the guy 'hey you're up'.

it doesn't have to be one or the other!

more 'pick a side' social interaction. cut the bull**** people.

My line up pet peeve is the store that opens another cashier lane, then someone behind me jumps to the front of the new lane.

If the new cashier does not say something about taking people from the front of the other line, then I speak up.

The clueless phone people? I just say 'Are you talking or shopping?'.

Hey, at least it wasn't McDonalds!

I'm also concerned about our phone addicted society... and noticing more people are getting on board with me (as opposed to 5-10 year ago where I would be accused of being a grumpy old man).

My supermarket even has a sign (please don't use your phone while in line)

I find it useful and polite just to ask the phone zombie "are you in line?" implying "notice all these people waiting on you?"

What?!? They don't have a Del Taco near you!?!
No, seriously, it is the same crap Mexican food but way less expensive

Here is SoCal getting Mexican fast food is a misdemeanor... however I am guilty of being lazy/cheap and running into one of those places when I'm starving.
