Tossing the old Dell desktop

It's too old and outdated. I've removed all of the vital organs and will recycle the cabinet with the racks and the heat sinks. I'll take the Board to Best Buy and let them scavenge it. I'll keep the hard drive here with me. But I don't know how to safely discard the power supply. Thoughts?

Is there anything I've overlooked related to safe disposal?

TIA!

Keep the power supply in your garage - you may need a 12v DC or 5v DC power supply for something at some point in the future.

Son is using an old one to charge his drone batteries...

Computers and tvs are fun to shoot. Do you have a friend with some land?

Just snipped the computer connectors and soldered on the proper connector for the battery interface.

In our area our county landfill has a section to receive "household items" which include paint, pesticides, fertilizer, household cleaning products, any kind of automotive related fluid, plus construction and home improvement products as well. They also have an electronics section right next to it for any kind of electronics including computers, TV sets, stereos, etc, etc.

Just drive out there and drop off at no charge.

They won't let you sift through and take home anything from the electronics section but in the "household item" section it's all up for grabs. They put a limit on paint because of all the contractors who pilfer the place.

I have several old CRT TV sets I'm going to take out there plus some old stereo stuff. I already dropped off 3 old CRT monitors. It's nice to free up space in my small abode.

Maybe your county has such a place?

That's what we do. The dump guys actually hold CRTs for me to shoot. I clean every thing up so they know they'll see it again.

I shoot laptops, everything: I keep a bin in my shop for aerosol cans, interesting stuff that make great targets.

My range doesn't allow that kind of fun.

We shoot any hard drive that may have sensitive information on them. The rest of the parts we have a guy that recycles them and the money goes to St. Judes.

Those hard drives are pretty tough.

I tried tracer rounds with aerosol cans, but I think the round penetrates the can so quickly that it doesn't ignite. Next time I'm going with road flares or sparklers. Yes, my wife yells at me a lot.

Power supplies useful. I have 2 on my plastic pinter, one for the electronics, another for the heated bed. Some supplies need a load on the 5v, resistor, for the 12v to fire. Some also need another line brought to ground or 5v. Google the supply, the info is out there. Server supplies even better.
