Kinda late?

Strong wind last night. Blew a basketball-sized bee nest out of one of my trees.
Carried it out on a shovel before it broke open. Hundreds of bees crawling around, looking for their warm home.
Where would they go to survive, if it hadn't fallen, at this time of year?
It's Michigan and the high today is 46F.

They're dead already...but what was their hope for moving on?
I can't believe the nest would have survived through temps of up to-20 F
Nature is cruel...but it seems to work out.

Yeah looks like a paper wasp nest.

Exceptionally aggressive little ****ers.

I’m normally a live and let live kinda guy but I treat them with extreme prejudice and a flame thrower.

Another of gods creatures that seems to have no benefit to anyone or anything.

They are disposable and just waiting to die unless there's a mild enough winter with available food.

Quote:
Most wasps die in the winter due to starvation, not the cold, as was previously thought. Some can survive if food can be found outside the nest.

In the fall, most worker wasps die. The workers are male wasps, and before they die, they impregnate the queens. The queens then look for a warm place to stay through the winter. Cold winters are good for queens because warm winters bring them out of hibernation early, when there is not enough food available outside of the hive. In the spring, the queens leave to build nests, where they lay eggs to make new colonies.

Actually they help dispose of fallen trees and limbs. Those nest rot fast and the tree is eaten.

I agree however. They are better off dead unless around humans. Great for our in the woods away from people.

Scorpions?
They were top of my list of "things that have no purpose in life"

[QUOTE=Bugsinrugs;10214345]Every creature seems to serve a purpose.

The next day, I noticed the nest was all ripped apart. A raccoon or skunk found it and ended up with a good meal!

How about ticks? What purpose do they serve? Well, they serve as a meal for various reptiles and are nature’s population controller for various mammals.
Scorpions prey on certain insects.
