All that has been mentioned. I remember my dad complaining about the loss of agility. I now understand what he meant. My body can't do what a younger person can do what mentally I think I can. That is a disconnect for me that I have had to accept.

ckelly78z 12-05-2018 05:06 AM

I don't jump out of pickup truck beds any more, and I can't dunk a basketball like I used to. When I do strenuous activity, i'm going to feel it the next day !

Everything mentioned above = PLUS CPAP machines.

The changes give us endless opportunities to adapt. My shoes were kept on the floor in my closet for most of my life. Not any more. I keep them on a shelf so I don't have to bend over to get them.

I got a little battery powered motion activated light that I put on the floor inside the bathroom door and a lighted toilet seat so MrsWD isn't awakened by the overhead bathroom light when I make those 12AM, 2AM, and 4AM bathroom trips.

How do you adapt?

Now my definition of an all nighter is when I don't get up to pee at 2 am.....
Had one the night before last. :)

Rickysa 12-05-2018 05:30 AM

Not being able to trust a fart...really.

stomachmonkey 12-05-2018 05:36 AM

You guys with the peeing in the middle of the night issue need to get on a regimen.

I've been taking a prostate supplement for a couple of years.

No longer have that issue.

Developing pain from doing nothing. I'm on my 8th visit to an occupational therapist for pain in my elbow and shoulder.... and I did NOTHING to injure either one.

Still doing things that are fun, but paying for it later.... I love Mountainbiking... They just opened a new trail in Hot Springs, with a downhill flow trail... lots of high berms and jumps. 2 days after riding it, every joint in my back was killing me. I will be 58 in Feb. I still think of myself as 30, and live accordingly. Try to exercise, I cycle both road and trail, ride motorcycles, love the outdoors, so I really want to be able to stay active when I get old... just didn't realize it would happen so soon. I remember my old man used to waddle down the hall in the mornings when he got up to get his coffee, and complain that everything hurt. I am afraid that will be me soon.

Oh that reminds me of another thing that sucks about getting old..
Turning into a complaining old curmudgeon...

It was a couple of years ago that you recommended a supplement. I got a bottle of it and took it as directed. I finished the bottle and got no relief. It just didn’t work for me.

I used to get dressed up to go to weddings.
Now I get dressed up to go to funerals.

GH85Carrera 12-05-2018 06:18 AM

Going to funerals. I keep going to funerals of friends. It sucks to go to the funeral of a friend that I used to autocross against, traveled together on vacation, and went to dinner.

And when I work on my cars and do a lot of "lay on the ground, and get back up", like most projects, I hurt the next day. That sucks.

wswartzwel 12-05-2018 06:38 AM

I had a friend that lived to be 100.. his complaint was he outlived all his pallbearers...

My wife's grandmother lived to be 98. She finally just gave up on life when all of her friends had dies, and 4 of her 5 children had died.

My former boss did it right. In his words he took "early retirement" at age 92. He was only working because he wanted to. He did not owe anybody for anything, and had more money than he could spend. He kept the business open to provide jobs for his employees that he treated almost like family. He took only one baby aspirin per day. No other medications except vitamins. He made his last flight as pilot in command on his 92nd birthday, and hung up his pilots license with not one emergency, and never a crash or off runway landing.

He kissed his wife good night at age 99 and walked, by himself upstairs to the bedroom to go to bed while she stayed up to watch a movie. He dropped dead from a heart attack. No lingering in a hospital or nursing home.

I have a weird thing that happens to me. Dr says "well when you get older things just start to hurt..."

My right pinky toe out of nowhere and for no reason will have a very short lived excruciating pain. 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. But it only lasts a few split seconds, sort of pulsates and will go away within a minute or two. It will happen for a few days about twice a day then will go away for months, sometimes long enough to where I forget about it. Best way to describe it is, imagine an extremely hot needle being jammed under your toe nail. It will stop me dead in my tracks when it happens and there is no way to not react from it.

I'm doing well at 73 in spite of the shoulder replacement scheduled in 4 weeks. But the thing for me is working on cars. It's hell to crawl under a car anymore. If I forgot a tool, I used to pop up from under there not giving it a thought. Well, after the 4th time I started to wonder about my sanity :D

Now, I make a list. I'll be on the DL for quite some time beginning in Jan. Then we'll see old.

Sounds a bit harsh to me, but it's your pinky.
Isn't there something they can do to cut the nerve to block it without cutting off an appendage?

If only we had a foot doctor on this forum ......

rfuerst911sc 12-05-2018 08:00 AM

I will be 61 in a few weeks , I am slower than I used to be but overall no complaints . Yep more aches and pains than 10 years ago but it comes with the territory . I believe it is very important to keep what's between your ears young ! Try to make every day a good and happy and positive day the best you can . And for you guys complaining about crawling under cars open up your wallet and buy a lift . Best damn tool you can own !
