Another azzhold neighbor thread, what would you do?
We have a newish neighbor. Young couple w a baby renting next door. Remember the ones that I got into a yelling match with a couple years ago because I knocked on their door to inform them that their car was blocking the street? Well, that's the house.
These new guys seem to think its ok for them to put out their trash in front of our house each and every week. My wife asked them nicely to put out their trash in front of their own house several times. All she got was a nod, turn and walk away. They put their recycling, yard and regular waste all sitting right there on the curb right in front of our kitchen window. Today, they won the award. They drag their cans around ours and left all three mid way in front, making 6 cans all lined up in front of my home. This siht has been on going on and they refuse to listen or give a siht. Issue is that they always overfill their and when it gets dumb by the truck, some of their trash falls off. I seem to be the dumb ass that have to pick up their crap constantly. What would you do? I am out of tricks and done being nice. Fooking people have no respect anymore. |
Isn't the answer obvious?
|
As in, you could move the garbage back to their property. Leaving it in the cans is optional.

Return the trash and make the cans disappear.

Did you flat out ask them why they are going out of their way to put their garbage in front of your house?
I can't even fathom how they can respond. I would pay to hear their justification. After that, I would tell them that the next time their garbage is on my property, the entire garbage can will be dumped all over their front yard. subbed to see how this resolves. |
I witnessed one of my neighbors doing the exact same thing, and I asked her why she did it. The reason was the cans blocked parking in front of her house, so apparently it's OK to block the parking in front of someone else's house.
|
i am a Look171 fan..sorry to see you have neighbor troubles.
i would NOT put out my own garbage for a week, but instead call the garbage company and tell them i am committed to reduce/reuse/recycle and to please take away my current cans (that are in front of my house) and replace them with the smallest receptacles possible. for the sake of the environment. the smaller the better. |
Confuse them, put your cans in front of their house. They will not know where to put their cans then.

I find that in situations like this, escalation is the only reasonable solution.
If you hesitate, your neighbor will get the upper hand and you'll be playing catch-up. So hit them hard and hit them fast before they can make the next move. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544567218.jpg |
I used to have a house with a shared drive. The neighbor did keep their trash on their side of the drive but would refuse to bring in the empty cans, sometimes for 2-3 weeks at a time! Since my house was closer to the road, everybody assumed they were mine and would even ask me why I always leave my trash cans out  Solution, ran a CL ad in the Free section: "6 large trash cans, like new. Free. Sitting by road. No need to knock on door, just pick them up." Gone in 3 hours. They bought all new cans and I did it again about a month later. After that, they got a dumpster and kept it back by their house. :D This woman neighbor, who was a doctor, was a complete psycho. Still can't figure out how they generated so much trash. Just 2 people and they'd have 5-6 overflowing cans every couple of weeks

For the win!!! That is awesome. |
Are they the trash bins like this?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1544567606.jpg If so I would roll them back in front of their property, run a ratchet strap around them bottom to top, flip them upside down and remove ratchet strap. Bet they'll stop by next trash day. |
I'd roll it 1/2 mile down the street....great exercise too!
Note to self....don't mess wif Pelicans ;) |
i thought the answer to dealing with azzhole neighbors was always to build a baby poo yellow fence?
|
actually if they are like the can pictured you can carefully roll them onto the lid so they dont make a mess, takes a second to think about it but your neighbor will be so angry when they find you have stationed them in their own driveway this way they wont realize it. it will teach them pretty fast.

Are you getting charged extra for the additional cans?
I find this hard to fathom as I’ve also just put the cans on my property and so have my neighbors. Do you want to go straight to DEFCON? Do they speak English? Maybe they did not understand? |
Make the trip longer for them.
Pop one of the endcaps off the axle that holds the wheels on. |
This thread needs some pictures with arrows or a graph or something

Get some liquid fertilizer and go make some art in their yard. It’ll be extra green, and way harder for them to make go away....

Yeah they speak perfect English. He's from San Diego and she from eastern Europe somewhere. We try to be nice neighbors and always ask nicely but the the answer has always been "Yeah" turn and walk back into the house.
All this stupid stuff over the placement of a trash can. Only if people just participate in simple courtesy, this place would be so much better. There's absolutely nothing in front of their house to keep them from leaving their can there. I scratch my head weekely over it in disbelieve. Oh yeah, like your friend, their cans are out for a couple days sitting on the corner of their house just right off the sidewalk. |

The old Fred would let my anger fester and build inside , until one day, I loose my schit right in front of them, and threw all of their trash, and my own trash all over their yard, in a most insane way while yelling obscenities at them .
|
Dump s bag of fish guts in them a few times after the truck has emptied them. The SoCal sun will make sure the smell soaks into the cans nicely. Nice lingering stench

Each week you should do something different.
Week one: Glop some axle grease across the bottom of the handle where they can't see it until they have grabbed it. They won't have anything to wipe their hands with since the garbage man just emptied it. Week two: If it is watertight, grab your garden hose and fill them with 70-80 gallons of water or something. Week three: Zip tie the two cans together by the handles so they can't roll with those heavy duty industrial zip ties. |
Do you pay individually for collection or is it "free", handled by the municipality?
If the later, do they know that? Actually, "do they know that" could apply in both scenarios. |

Maybe the neighbors don't want to pay? As in, they put them in front of your house so THEY don't have to pay. |
Ok the serious question is what would you do? I have tried every month or two to ask them about it when I see them pulling their trash cans over on my side. Its usually very late in the evening, so I go out and ask politely with no result. This has been going on for just about a year. My wife is really sick of it and we get into it and I have to deal with that. Would you just come un-glue? Diplomacy isn't working too well for us
