Looks generic. Like what any kid would sketch if you told them to sketch a supercar. Also looks like an R8, which I also find to be boring and generic. I’m sure it will go like hell for a very reasonable amount of money though.

If I could have written an alternate time line for GM, they would have built the mid-engine Caddy and kept the Vette front-engined.

Did you know that a mid-engined Viper was once considered?

Dec 2018
The mid-engined Dodge Viper that never was

Quote:
Fact or fiction? Few sources can be more authoritative on Dodge Viper history as Chris Theodore, one of Chrysler’s general managers during the 1990s. CAD designs and wooden mock-ups of a mid-engined Dodge Viper were created in order to explore the possibilities for a more exotic muscle car for the next generation.
I think they did an okay job of making a mid-engine Vette, good enough, and not too polarizing. I question more the need to do this, did the number crunchers say both a mid-engine Caddy and front-engine Vette would saturate the market and bust both projects?

EDIT:

Looking at the the 2002 Cadillac Cien concept car (first image far above) I do not think the headlight height is high enough to meet current regulations. Talking this design from concept to production could have been a painful experience for the design team.

Only interested if they bring back the round tail lights.

I see the basic proportions of a Ferrari, But they let an 11-year-old pencil in the details.

I wish Robert Cumberford was still around, so we could get his take on it.

Oh no, is he no longer with us? Always enjoyed his writings, analysis, and critiques.

I live 10 minutes from the proving grounds and have caught glimpses of the C8. I find it fairly underwhelming and the sound (along with the C7) upon mild acceleration even more so.

Actually, he's still around but I hadn't seen any of his critiques lately. I did some digging and it seems he still does them from time to time. Maybe he'll do one on this car when the thing is released.

Sorry to alarm you...

In my opinion, the person and or persons that penciled the Daytona Prototype race car had a much better feel for what a Corvette is or should be.

I suspect that the mid-engine street car was dictated by committee and hence has the Camel-like or jambalaya mixture we have to deal with.

stomachmonkey should like it, as it kind of has round rear taillights.

Different eras of influence for sure, and not to road going safety standards, I'm just saying the love of the car shines through, hands were not tied.

Cumberford continues to provide an analysis (By Design) for each issue of Automobile. Wikipedia has him at 83 years of age.

Good that they put the "Corvette" name on it. Otherwise it would be confused with something from Japan - or Korea.

The strange thing is I would think it was something from the Volkswagen/Audi group.

Maybe, I don't know. I probably could have typed Volkswagen/Audi and it would all be the same to me. I'm with Matt, they all look generic to me.
I'm not buying a car, so there is no reason for anyone to listen to me, but it would be cool if someone said, "They all have angles and sharp edges these days. Let's do round. I like round. Rounded shapes and swoopy, sexy curves."
I would like a car that makes me think of my wife lying naked on the bed in stead of thinking, "Oh, I have to take the trash can to the curb tonight." Maybe that's why I still love 356s and 911s.

Every Vette has something to like about the styling, it's performance per dollar where the Vette really tends to shine....

I mean Porsche made a long hood Bug and called it a day.

If I can get a slightly used C8 in a year or two after release with say 500HP, I think that would be hard to pass up... unless I can get a nice wide body and a turbo for my SC, without a second mortgage.

While a massive improvement from an engineering perspective it almost certainly marks the end of the breed. The gold chain wearing crowd will look upon like the lovechild of their wife and the milkman and the rest will turn away lest be associated with the gold chain wearing crowd. Not defending the sentiment of either group but it is what it is.

Interesting article here.

https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/motor-mouth-the-future-of-the-automobile-is-not-yet-written

They think the future of cars is in subscriptions. At the conclusion they state that millenials might be more car-loving than boomers because they want car subscriptions more than boomers, and subscriptions will allow them to drive a wider variety of models. I call BS. I don't really care about driving a variety of milque toast sedans.
