What did you play on your Walkman
The Walkman thread had me thinking about what I played on my Walkman.
I was a New Wave aficionado. So the tapes I carried in my backpack in high school were: B-52s (Red Album and Wild Planet) The GoGos Thomas Dolby Blondie Police Devo

Peppy music for when jogging. Boston and INXS I remember. Mostly mix tapes I made. Also an obscure band called the Feelies.
Check out about 1:30 in for Feelies. Mostly for longer runs. A little trance like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FJxJbbKQ7o&list=PL94gOvpr5yt3ZgenkVrKerK43Ypu9YQhX

I remember Just like Heaven but not the title or the band. All I remembered was "Tell me, tell me, tell me" Searched on that for a couple of years then finally found it was "Show me, show me, show me."

So much Master of Puppets...
Anthrax, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Exodus... Ministry, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Pigface... T.S.O.L., Circle Jerks, DRI, Gorilla Biscuits... Been through probably 5 tapes of Violent Femmes, everyone always had at leave one copy of that album around them at all times. And the Beach Boys. Sometimes Jan and Dean. I'm a sucker for surf rock. Actually, I usually had some sort of mix tape playing, something that I spent 5 or 6 hours carefully putting together... I still have most of my tapes and probably half of my CDs laying around.

I never had a walkman, but I can remember like yesterday, the kid 2 seats in front of me on the school bus, rocking license to ill , every morning .
I used discmans later, as a way to listen to cd's in old cars with tape decks .

1987- brand new Kawasaki Ninja 750, brand new Walkman with Def Leppard’s just-released “Hysteria” cassette. Every time I hear a track off that (usually on Sirius XM these days) I am transported back to twisting that throttle and laughing behind my helmet.

Never had a Walkman.
I did have a pre Walkman. It was a portable 8 track that used 8 D cells. About the size of a briefcase. Steppenwolf, Grassroots, and the Beatles were my first 3 tapes. |
