I'd start by taking it to a well known independent body and paint expert. Get their opinion as to whether this is original failed paint or was the vehicle repainted prior to her purchase. Either way Honda should fix it or buy her out of the vehicle. Get the State AG's office involved. When did this start and when did she bring it to their attention? Then start taking it up the chain with Honda through their regional and national corporate resources. Be noisy, be diligent, maybe get a lawyer to write a letter.

On the mid to late 80's GM cars there was a delamination issue of the base and clear. Unlike the Honda scenario, the primer was usually good. My sister and I stripped her 198X mid-size Chevy with Windex and single edge razor blades. Still a couple of long days to get to the point of prepping for new BC/CC. That said, this situation is a shame. My sisters car was 20 years old. The Honda probably cost well over $30k.

Both my sons had black Honda Civics. Both cars had problems with the paint coming off. Honda extended the warranty on the paint to 7 years. Both my sons had the paint issue with their cars resolved by Honda.

This issue is so "Un-Honda". I'm really surprised that a Honda could have such problems.
Back in the 90s Honda factory paint was the standard by which others were measured.

About that time....I bought a Maytag washing machine. A fine US product, the HDs of washers. New baby in the house, a friend in the biz said.... commercial grade machine, will go forever. In 12 months the outside casing looked like that Honda. Long story short, when we got to truth and a resolution - shipping container overboard or seawater compromised and recovered... Although that looks like a sunroof fkmelt.

The company I work for has 3 Honda Odyssey vans. One is my daily driver. All 3 have peeling paint!
This is exactly like what you showed. Dealer no help. Good luck ! |

We had an '06 Odyssey Touring.
When it was relatively new, an errand shopping cart rolled into the rear bumper and a half dollar sized piece of paint fell off. The dealer said it was caused by the damage, I said BS. That's a crappy paint job. Went over their head and called Honda. They ended up installing a freshly painted new rear bumper.

If you do a search for honda odyssey paint fails pretty much every image of peeling paint is on the White ones starting around 2012.
They look just likes James's sisters ride.
